The statue is currently in the custody of CBP. Kardashian, 40, was listed as \u2018the consignee and importer name.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fox added that \u201cIncluded in the shipment was 40 pieces of antique objects estimated with a value of $745,882, documents state. Masterpiece International was listed as the broker of the statue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Archaeological material \u201c<\/span><span>originating in Italy and representing the pre-classical, Classical and Imperial Roman Periods\u201d is not permitted to be imported to the United States without \u201cproper documentation,\u201d due to the Cultural Property Implementation Act, reported the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2021-05-04\/kim-kardashian-roman-statue-italy-government\"><span>LA Times<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The federal court complaint alleges that a 2018 analysis of the sculpture, conducted by an archaeologist from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in Italy, deduced that the statue was \u201clooted, smuggled and illegally exported from Italy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs such, Italy\u2019s Carabinieri for the Protection of Cultural Heritage has requested the artifact addressed to Kardashian be returned to its alleged country of origin,\u201d added the LA Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to their report, the defendant in the case is the statue, and not Kardashian herself. The Roman sculpture is in CBP custody, and is \u201cidentified by the government as \u2018Fragment of Myron\u2019s Samian Athena, Limestone, Roman, 1st \u2014 2nd century A.D.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The LA Times added that the court documents suggest that \u201ca suspicious package was flagged by CBP upon arriving in Los Angeles on May 3, 2016,\u201d with the parcel containing \u201ca stone sculpture of the lower half of a human figure wearing a dress\u201d being described as \u201c40 pieces of \u2018Antiques &#038; Modern Furniture &#038; Decorations Objects\u2019 with a gross weight of [5 tons] and valued at $745,882.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/kim-kardashian-ordered-to-turn-over-looted-roman-statue\"><span>The Daily Beast<\/span><\/a><span>, Masterpiece International, a customs broker and logistics company, \u201c<\/span><span>originally claimed that the statue was acquired at the Galerie Chenel in Paris in 2012 by renowned art dealer Axel Vervoordt,\u201d the same art dealer and interior designer \u201cwho worked on Kardashian and West\u2019s Los Angeles estate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After customs officials examined the statue, the description of the item did not match the imported statue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Denying Kardashian\u2019s involvement or impropriety, representatives for the \u201cKeeping Up with the Kardashians\u201d star said \u201cWe believe it may have been purchased using her name without authorization and because it was never received, she was unaware of the transaction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe encourage an investigation and hope that it gets returned to the rightful owners,\u201d they added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
