Notably, Black Lives Matter demonstrators and other left-wing activists destroyed liberal cities across the nation while protesting and rioting over the deaths of George Floyd and Brooks.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">\u201cGiven the volatile state of our city and nation last summer, the\u00a0decision to terminate this officer, after he fatally shot Mr. Brooks in the back, was the right thing to do,\u201d Lance Bottoms said in a statement issued Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">\u201cHad immediate action not been taken, I firmly believe that the public safety crisis we experienced during that time would have been significantly worse,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">The mayor\u2019s statement seems to suggest that the improper firing of\u00a0Rolfe, who had his due process rights violated, was the \u201cright\u201d move so that rioters would be appeased, or at least not upset further.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Rolfe already filed a lawsuit against Bottoms and interim police Chief Rodney Bryant in August, claiming, in part, that his right to due process was violated.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">In the suit, Rolfe said he was fired\u00a0\u201cwithout an investigation, without proper notice, without a pre-disciplinary hearing, and in direct violation of the municipal code of the city of Atlanta,\u201d NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/ex-atlanta-officer-charged-rayshard-brooks-death-sues-over-firing-n1235933\">reported<\/a>\u00a0at the time.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">As highlighted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/due-process-matters-lawyer-for-officer-in-rayshard-brooks-case-responds-to-client-being-reinstated\">The Daily Wire<\/a>, Rolfe\u00a0attorney Lance LoRusso said in a statement Wednesday,\u00a0\u201cWe are very excited that the Civil Board says that due process matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_D123C2D9-DBA4-2518-9DDB-3DEEA67F01B1\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_8\">LoRusso added that his\u00a0client\u2019s \u201creinstatement will likely take some time, but he intended to get his client back to work,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/05\/05\/us\/atlanta-former-officer-garrett-rolfe-reinstated\/index.html\">according<\/a> to CNN.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_FA286104-21DC-1A20-F011-3D2F7F1AE16D\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_1\">Rolfe was hit with\u00a0felony charges in the death of Brooks a week after the fatal shooting took place in a Wendy\u2019s parking lot. The reinstated officer is currently facing 11 counts, including felony murder and assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n<p data-paragraph-id=\"paragraph_FA286104-21DC-1A20-F011-3D2F7F1AE16D\" data-act-id=\"paragraph_1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-former-atlanta-officer-charged-with-felony-murder-in-shooting-of-rayshard-brooks\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported on the incident back in June:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13.768275862069\">\n<p><em>Rolfe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/report-atlanta-man-fatally-shot-by-police-after-struggle-outside-drive-thru\">killed<\/a> Brooks late on Friday night after responding to a call from a Wendy\u2019s employee that a man had fallen asleep behind the wheel in his car in the drive-through and was obstructing traffic. The officers ran Brooks through a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer that pegged Brooks\u2019 blood alcohol concentration at .108%, according to body cam footage released by the Atlanta police department. The legal limit to drive is .08%.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>After cooperating for nearly half an hour, Brooks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-police-body-cam-footage-challenges-narrative-on-death-of-rayshard-brooks\">fought<\/a> with the officers as they tried to place him in handcuffs. All three struggled and fell to the ground where Brooks managed to take Brosnan\u2019s taser and escape the officers.
