Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1390020298834026502?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 5, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The bill prohibits K-12 institutions from stoking racial divides by forcing certain children to view themselves as \u201coppressors\u201d while others are viewed as \u201coppressed\u201d merely because of their skin color.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers can no longer tell an individual \u201cby virtue of the individual\u2019s race or sex\u201d that they are \u201cinherently privileged, racist, sexist, or oppressive.\u201d Students can no longer be taught that \u201can individual\u2019s moral character is determined by the individual\u2019s race or sex,\u201d or that \u201can individual, by virtue of the individual\u2019s race or sex, bears responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or sex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under this legislation, teachers also cannot tell their students that the state of Tennessee or the United States are \u201cfundamentally or irredeemably racist or sexist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rufo told The Daily Wire that this bill reflects the overwhelming rejection of \u201ctoxic and divisive principles,\u201d such as critical race theory, being taught to children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoters across the country are revolting against public school systems that have abandoned education in favor of political indoctrination,\u201d Rufo said. \u201cTennessee legislators have a moral obligation to make sure that public schools reflect the values of the public \u2014 and Tennesseeans of all racial backgrounds reject the toxic and divisive principles of race essentialism, collective guilt, and neo-segregation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee bill was proposed by state Rep. John Ragan. Ragan received an email from a constituent about a 7-year-old white student who was described as \u201cdepressed and suicidal\u201d after a discussion about her \u201cwhite privilege\u201d in her public school. The student allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/tn.chalkbeat.org\/2021\/5\/3\/22417419\/tennessee-lawmakers-advance-bill-to-ban-critical-race-theory-instruction-in-public-schools\">told<\/a> her mother, \u201cI\u2019m ashamed that I\u2019m white.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar bills have passed in Idaho, Utah, and Arkansas. Red states such as Oklahoma and Texas have bills banning critical race theory in process.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/oklahoma-race-and-ethnicity-government-and-politics-education-540373399d5c29fdd279b7ecff8d762d\">Associated Press<\/a> reported that the GOP-controlled House in Oklahoma voted overwhelmingly for a bill that will prohibit teaching critical race theory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents are being taught that because they\u2019re a certain race or sex, they\u2019re inherently superior to others or should feel guilty for something that happened in the past,\u201d state Rep. Kevin West told The Associated Press. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to set boundaries that we as a state say will not be crossed when we\u2019re teaching these kinds of subjects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis opted to direct the education department to ban critical race theory from public schools.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-takes-on-critical-race-theory-teaching-kids-to-hate-their-country-not-worth-one-red-cent-of-taxpayer-money\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>DeSantis updated the public on his state\u2019s new educational priorities in a press conference.
