There is bipartisan agreement on this issue as President Joe Biden\u2019s administration formalized accusations that China has engaged in \u201cgenocides and crimes against humanity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sachs and Schabas\u2019s article admits that there are \u201ccredible charges of human rights abuses\u201d against Uyghurs, though they do not believe that the U.S. has reached the burden of proof necessary to judge whether the ongoing actions constitute genocide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, as the duo notes, \u201cimposing measures intended to prevent births within a group\u201d is a recognized act of genocide under the Geneva Convention. According to a report from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/sep\/04\/muslim-minority-teacher-50-tells-of-forced-sterilisation-in-xinjiang-china\"><span>The Guardian<\/span><\/a><span>, a teacher coerced into teaching classes in Xinjiang internment camps described the ongoing forced sterilization of women as part of the Chinese government\u2019s campaign to suppress birth rates among Muslims.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sachs and Scahbas insist that the United Nations investigate the internment camps in China to determine whether Western countries are accurate in calling the ongoing situation a genocide.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Former ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, told The Daily Wire that these academics are parroting \u201cCommunist propaganda\u201d as the U.S. clearly knows that China has detained over one million Uyghurs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cCommunist China has detained over a million Uyghurs \u2014 many have been raped, sterilized, and forced into slave labor,\u201d Haley said. \u201cYet, these \u2018academics\u2019 are ready to criticize America and parrot communist propaganda. What a joke.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Seldom journalists and experts have been able to observe the ongoing atrocities at the internment camps, though <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2019\/11\/17\/she-survived-chinese-internment-camp-made-it-virginia-will-us-let-her-stay\/?arc404=true\"><span>survivors<\/span><\/a><span> have recounted their torture. Studies and experts have also documented routine instances of forced sterilization, rape, torture, and forced labor of Uyghurs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A report by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newlinesinstitute.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chinas-Breaches-of-the-GC3.pdf\"><span>Newslines Institute for Strategy and Policy<\/span><\/a><span> found that Uyghurs have been detained for numerous reasons and Xinjiang has criminalized \u201cvirtually all Islamic matters.\u201d Reasons for detainment include attending religious ceremonies, refusing to marry non-Uyghurs, and wearing veils, or having beards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Columbia University did not respond to request for comment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
