What inning are we in as far as this Covid pandemic is concerned?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you know, we\u2019re at least halfway through,\u201d Fauci replied. \u201cI hope we\u2019re seeing, and I do believe, Wolf, I\u2019m not trying to be overly enthusiastic about what\u2019s going on vis-\u00e0-vis the vaccine program, which is so successful. But we\u2019ve really got to not declare victory prematurely. So we\u2019re in the late innings, but it\u2019s not over. That\u2019s the thing we\u2019ve really got to get people to appreciate. We\u2019re going in the right direction; we\u2019re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but now\u2019s not the time to declare victory. It\u2019s the time to get more and more people vaccinated, just the way the president said today. We want to get to that goal; it\u2019s a doable goal, and I believe we\u2019ll get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blitzer probed, \u201cSo you think the seventh, the eighth inning, late innings? What inning are you talking about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci answered, \u201cHow about the bottom of the sixth? Try that one, Wolf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blitzer, gratefully, \u201cI\u2019ll go with the bottom of the sixth. People start saying, \u2018Should I start wearing a mask?\u2019 Now, in the United States, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/05\/22\/dr-anthony-fauci-says-staying-closed-for-too-long-could-cause-irreparable-damage.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain\">May 2020<\/a>: \u201cWe can\u2019t stay locked down for such a considerable period of time that you might do irreparable damage and have unintended consequences including consequences for health. And it\u2019s for that reason why the guidelines are being put forth so that the states and the cities can start to reenter and reopen. So we are enthusiastic about reopening, and I think we can do it in a pace that would be reasonable and that would get us back as a society from a morale standpoint as well as the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, late July 2020: \u201cI don\u2019t think we need to go to lockdown again and shelter in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, October 2020: \u201cI\u2019m not going to tell you anything. I don\u2019t even know. It would be foolish to predict what is going to be better. The proof is in the pudding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fauci-u-s-has-independent-spirit-but-its-time-to-do-what-youre-told-to-stop-pandemic\">mid-November 2020<\/a>: \u201cI was talking with my U.K. colleagues who are saying the U.K. is similar to where we are now, because each of our countries have that independent spirit. I can understand that, but now is the time to do what you\u2019re told.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cnn-asks-fauci-about-not-being-straight-on-number-needed-for-herd-immunity\">reported<\/a> in late December, 2020:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21.727131782946\">\n<p><em>CNN host Dana Bash pressed Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, on Sunday over recent remarks that he made about the percentage of the population that would have to receive the COVID-19 vaccination for the U.S. to reach herd immunity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn the pandemic\u2019s early days, Dr. Fauci tended to cite the same 60 to 70 percent estimate that most experts did,\u201d The New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/24\/health\/herd-immunity-covid-coronavirus.html\">reported<\/a>last week. \u201cAbout a month ago, he began saying \u201970, 75 percent\u2019 in television interviews.
