As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-york-times-washington-post-nbc-news-all-forced-to-retract-false-claims-about-trump-lawyer-rudy-giuliani\">The Daily Wire<\/a> previously reported, the story ended up being an egregious error.<\/p>\n<p>The segment was in response to One America News Network President Charles Herring asking how mainstream media outlets allegedly confirm anonymous sources\u2019 stories yet they still report \u201cfake news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be clear, Brian. These aren\u2019t \u2018fake sources,\u2019 like Herring is saying. In fact, the news organizations, they know, like you said, exactly who these anonymous sources are,\u201d Darcy explained. \u201cWhen a reporter gets information from an anonymous source, they go to their editor, they look at this person. They vet them and they say, \u2018How does this person know this information that they\u2019re giving us? Are they a credible source? Do we have other sources who can confirm what they\u2019re saying?\u2019 And, if all those things check out, they might go forward and report the information, like what happened in this case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat said, there are safeguards. There is human error. The safeguards only work so much,\u201d Darcy said. \u201cSo, sometimes sources will get things wrong and the news organizations report the information, hear back from the source, and they learn that the information wasn\u2019t correct. And, in this case, that appears to be what has happened with all of these news organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is there are safeguards in place. Unfortunately, human error is still at play and news organizations sometimes do get burned like this,\u201d Darcy concluded.<\/p>\n<p>According to Stelter, the difference between news outlets are those that \u201ctry to get it right and outlets that don\u2019t give a damn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, outlets at The Post do try. As you\u2019re saying, they have layers of oversight, ethics guidelines, and corrections processes and yet a bogus report of this magnitude allows bad-faith actors to lump them in with like mydogsblog.com and, you know, ends up tarring all of the media,\u201d Stelter said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Darcy, the outlets were \u201cresponsible\u201d when they discovered the \u201cerror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey owned up to it. They issued corrections,\u201d Darcy said. He slammed \u201cMAGA media\u201d \u2013 the Left\u2019s nickname for conservative news sites \u2013 as those who \u201cdo everything they can to avoid issuing corrections, to own up to their mistakes, and sometimes it seems like they\u2019re intentionally, you know, promoting falsehoods and moving on.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.6194029850746\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A news org\u2019s true colors are revealed when they make an error. Do they issue corrections and own up to their mistake or do they try to pretend it never happened? This week we saw examples of both. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cwjA8WFRUb\">pic.twitter.com\/cwjA8WFRUb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Oliver Darcy (@oliverdarcy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oliverdarcy\/status\/1388880650590097409?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s amazing that Darcy and Stelter are going to lecture about news organizations\u2019 \u201csafeguards\u201d and getting stories correct. For two years, CNN was one of the outlets that repeatedly told us President Donald Trump colluded with Russia. When Special Counsel Robert Mueller came in and investigated, he found that no collusion took place, which destroyed the Left\u2019s collusion narratives. Did CNN, The New York Times, or The Washington Post issue corrections? No. They wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/03\/24\/politics\/mueller-report-release\/index.html\">another article<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/podcasts\/post-reports\/mueller-finds-no-conspiracy-with-russia-but-does-not-draw-a-conclusion-on-obstruction-of-justice\/\">Mueller\u2019s findings<\/a>, as if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/03\/24\/us\/politics\/mueller-report-summary.html\">the narrative<\/a> they pushed was no big deal. There were no corrections. There were no apologies. They simply shrugged and moved on.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to say there are \u201csafeguards\u201d when completely false stories are written, produced, and published, especially when it happens repeatedly.<\/p>\n<p>They can blame these egregious stories on \u201chuman error\u201d but that fails to take into account political aspirations and leanings. Most of the anti-Trump stories, especially those surrounding the former president\u2019s allies, are because of the media\u2019s disdain for Trump. It was never about reporting the fact.
