We will continue to work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to evaluate the need for these directives and recognize the significant level of compliance thus far.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The TSA also posted a video, featuring a woman and two elementary-school aged children, showing how to walk through an airport while wearing a face mask \u2014 something the federal transportation agency described as for \u201ceveryone\u2019s benefit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.6408450704225\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">VIDEO: We want your travels to be as safe as possible. Learn more on face masks: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/y0D4s1jiHu\">https:\/\/t.co\/y0D4s1jiHu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WwsLniG0jz\">pic.twitter.com\/WwsLniG0jz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TSA (@TSA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TSA\/status\/1388185631138983936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 30, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The department\u2019s decision comes as the United States has been vaccinating millions of people against COVID-19 every day, and has been experiencing the lowest number of recorded COVID-19 fatalities since October 2020. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/new-us-covid-cases-fall-sharply-last-week-deaths-lowest-since-october-2021-04-26\/\">According to Reuters<\/a>, 4,972 people died of COVID-19 in the United States in the week ending on April 25 (and the last time fewer than 5,000 people died of COVID-19 in the U.S. in a week was October 2020).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The initial mask mandate was put in place at the beginning of February.\u00a0<\/span><span>Earlier this month, the CDC updated its<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/fully-vaccinated.html\"> guidance<\/a> for mask-wearing, saying that fully vaccinated people could forgo masks when outside with others. From the CDC:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart.<\/em><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>gather indoors with unvaccinated people of any age from one other household (for example, visiting with relatives who all live together) without masks or staying 6 feet apart, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an\u00a0increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.<\/em><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><em>gather or conduct activities outdoors without wearing a mask except in certain crowded settings and venues.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>President Joe Biden continues to wear his mask outdoors anyway \u2014 even though he is fully vaccinated and has been for months \u2014 and has said he does so because he is likely to interact with people. However, he has also described<\/span><span> mask-wearing as a sort of \u201cpatriotic\u201d duty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s a small precaution to take that has a profound impact.
