Starting today, I no longer accept money from any corporate PAC. I urge my GOP colleagues at all levels to do the same,\u201d\u00a0Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-ted-cruz\">Ted Cruz<\/a> (R-Texas) wrote in an op-ed.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz said he was disenchanted with corporations after dozens criticized an election reform bill passed in Georgia. Major League Baseball, because of the legislation, moved its All-Star Game to Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor too long, woke CEOs have been fair-weather friends to the Republican Party: They like us until the left\u2019s digital pitchforks come out. Then they run away. Or they mouth off on legislation they don\u2019t understand\u2014and hurt the reputations of patriotic leaders protecting our elections and expanding the right to vote. Enough is enough. Corporations that flagrantly misrepresent efforts to protect our elections need to be called out, singled out and cut off,\u201d Cruz wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-josh-hawley\">Josh Hawley<\/a> (R-Mo.), also considered a potential 2024 candidate, soon joined Cruz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes! Corporate America has put Americans last. They ship our jobs to China, mock middle America\u2019s way of life, try to control our speech and run our lives. It\u2019s time we stood up to them. I won\u2019t take corporate PAC donations &#038; I\u2019ll fight to break up their monopoly power,\u201d he wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said he was the first Republican in Congress to swear off all federal PAC money. (Graeme Jennings\/Pool via Reuters)<\/figure>\n<p>According to filings with the federal government, corporate committees doled out over $400 million in the 2020 election cycle. That was the highest amount among a certain set of PACs. Labor committees sent $385 million in spending.<\/p>\n<p>No other Republicans immediately joined Cruz and Hawley.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), told reporters in Washington that the Senate Republican campaign arm will continue accepting donations from corporate PACs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElections costs money, so we\u2019ll take that money at the NRSC,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who ran in 2016 like Cruz, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/andrewsolender\/2021\/04\/29\/gop-senators-railing-against-woke-businesses-say-theyll-keep-taking-their-pac-money\/?sh=4825167b2240\">told<\/a> Forbes he would not reject money from corporations, even those he\u2019s directly criticized. \u201cIf they want to support us, that\u2019s great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Josh Harder (D-Calif.) unveiled a bill earlier this month that would ban all corporate PACs, arguing they have too much power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrow a rock in any direction from Capitol Hill and you\u2019ll find a corporation looking to buy somebody\u2019s vote.
