But we live in a country with systemic racism,\u201d said Behar, who also called it \u201cappalling\u201d that Scott didn\u2019t \u201cacknowledge\u201d the existence of systemic racism in the United States during his speech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAt least acknowledge that there is systemic racism,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"5.9487179487179\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Joy Behar says Tim Scott doesn\u2019t understand what systemic racism means <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pWKhOSxjVO\">pic.twitter.com\/pWKhOSxjVO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Post Millennial (@TPostMillennial) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TPostMillennial\/status\/1387874327165644810?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sunny Hostin, another co-host of \u201cThe View,\u201d said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/vile-sunny-hostin-tim-scott-chosen-because-he-was-black\">Scott was chosen to give the rebuttal speech<\/a> because of his race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy was he chosen to give this rebuttal? He was chosen because he is the only black Republican senator,\u201d said Hostin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is the person that Republicans want to put out front because of the problem of racism in this country and he knows that. So I was sort of disappointed that he was used in this way and didn\u2019t take that opportunity to address that type of \u2014 this type of issue head-on,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p><span>During Scott\u2019s speech Wednesday, the South Carolina senator said that Americans need to find common ground in discussions about race, and also shared a moving anecdote about his grandfather pretending to read the newspaper in the morning to set a good example for Scott \u2014 even though he never learned to read himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Scott said that he himself knows the \u201cpain of discrimination,\u201d having been \u201cpulled over for no reason\u201d and \u201cfollowed around a store.\u201d He also added: <span>\u201cI\u2019ve also experienced a different kind of intolerance. I get called \u2018Uncle Tom\u2019 and the N-word by progressives, by liberals. Just last week, a national newspaper suggested my family\u2019s poverty was actually privilege because a relative owned land generations before my time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>After Scott\u2019s speech, the phrase \u201cUncle Tim\u201d trended on Twitter, a combination of the names Tim Scott and \u201cUncle Tom,\u201d a racial slur that has historically been used to accuse black men of being submissive to white men.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina senator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sen-tim-scott-blasts-leftists-for-literally-attacking-the-color-of-my-skin-after-speech\">called out the responses<\/a> to his speech during an appearance on \u201cFox &#038; Friends\u201d the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is stunning in 2021 that those who speak about ending discrimination want to end it by more discrimination,\u201d Scott\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll just tell you that it has been an amazing morning with so many good people calling. But the Left, they have doubled down. They are not going to attack my policies, but they are literally attacking the color of my skin.
