(Morgan Frances\/WJZY via AP)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 12:45 PM PT \u2013 Thursday, April 29, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>A community is in mourning after a 14-hour long <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBICharlotte\/status\/1387765092482260995?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1387765092482260995%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fus%2Fnorth-carolina-deputies-shot-watauga-county-standoff\">stand-off in North Carolina<\/a> left two officers and three civilians, including the suspect, dead. According to Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman on Thursday, Sergeant Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox both died from their injuries.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our hearts are broken for our law enforcement partners at the Watauga County Sheriff&#8217;s Office. There are no words to explain the sorrow the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FBI?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FBI<\/a> family feels for you. We continue to be thankful for the men and women who put themselves in harm&#8217;s way to protect our communities. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/M6mWLmke4o\">pic.twitter.com\/M6mWLmke4o<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FBI Charlotte (@FBICharlotte) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBICharlotte\/status\/1387765092482260995?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 29, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Both officers were reportedly injured during a welfare check Wednesday in Boone, which is a city just northwest of Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>The pair were met with gunfire when they entered the home. Hagaman said there was no doubt the suspect ambushed the officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was waiting for the officers and we had had an issue with him over the weekend,\u201d Sheriff Hagaman explained. \u201cThe compassion for the community and doing the right thing, they [the officers] did that.
