Tim Scott\u2019s (R-SC) speech rebuttal to President Joe Biden\u2019s address to the nation, prominent Leftists on Twitter took Scott to task for daring to say that America is not a racist country. On Thursday morning, Vice President Kamala Harris said the same thing, yet has not received the same vitriol as Scott \u2013 or any vitriol at all.<\/p>\n<p>Scott insisted during this speech that \u201cAmerica is not a racist country,\u201d as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-must-see-moments-from-sen-tim-scotts-gop-response-to-president-bidens-congressional-address\">reported<\/a> by The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, kids are being taught that the color of their skin defines them again and if they look a certain way, they\u2019re an oppressor. From colleges to corporations to our culture, people are making money and gaining power by pretending we haven\u2019t made any progress at all by doubling down on the divisions we\u2019ve worked so hard to heal,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know this stuff is wrong. Hear me clearly: America is\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>a racist country. It\u2019s backwards [sic] to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it\u2019s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leftists on Twitter were quick to insist Scott didn\u2019t know what he was talking about, as Alex Griswold noted. Amy Siskind wrote: \u201cTim Scott says \u2018America is not a racist country.\u2019 Not sure how this man lives with himself.\u201d Marc Lamont Hill wrote \u201cJesus\u201d in response to Scott\u2019s message. In fairness, Hill later condemned white liberals for calling Scott an \u201cUncle Tom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toure wrote: \u201cTim Scott complained about being called an Uncle Tom and the n60 seconds later said America is not a racist country.\u201d Scott is called an Uncle Tom by the Left for daring to be a Republican since he is a black man, so Toure\u2019s comment kind of backfired.<\/p>\n<p>University of California-Berkeley professor Robert Reich added: \u201cI could have sworn I heard Senator Tim Scott, the sole Black Republican in the Senate, claim tonight \u201cAmerica is not a racist nation.\u201d But I couldn\u2019t have. That\u2019s absurd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being the only black senator of a particular party doesn\u2019t prove a nation \u2013 or even a party \u2013 is racist. Besides, there would be more black Republican senators if Democrats didn\u2019t work so hard to defeat them (See: John James in Michigan and many more examples of black Republican House of Representative candidates).<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning, Vice President Harris said she agreed with Scott, the New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/04\/29\/vp-kamala-harris-says-us-is-not-a-racist-country\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t think America is a racist country. But we also do have to speak truth about the history of racism in our country and its existence today.
