According to \u201cthree people with knowledge of the investigation,\u201d the move by federal investigators represents a significant ramp-up in \u201ca criminal investigation into Mr. Giuliani\u2019s dealings in Ukraine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/rudy-giuliani-search-warrant\/2021\/04\/28\/e5ba6ed2-a83d-11eb-bca5-048b2759a489_story.html\"><span>The Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span> noted that \u201c<\/span><span>The investigation into Giuliani revolves around his interactions with Ukrainian figures ahead of last year\u2019s presidential election, as he sought information that might prove politically damaging to then-candidate Joe Biden and pressed for the ouster of the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine.\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/04\/28\/politics\/rudy-giuliani-federal-prosecutors\/index.html\"><span>CNN<\/span><\/a><span> added that \u201c<\/span><span>He hasn\u2019t been charged and has denied wrongdoing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe investigators seized Mr. Giuliani\u2019s electronic devices and searched his apartment on Madison Avenue and his office on Park Avenue at about 6 a.m., two of the people said,\u201d The New York Times reported, adding that \u201cThe execution of search warrants is an extraordinary action for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Robert J. Costello, Giuliani\u2019s lawyer, described the actions as \u201clegal thuggery,\u201d adding that the searches were \u201cunnecessary because his client had offered to answer prosecutors\u2019 questions, except those regarding Mr. Giuliani\u2019s privileged communications with the former president,\u201d according to The Times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhat they did today was legal thuggery,\u201d Costello said. \u201cWhy would you do this to anyone, let alone someone who was the associate attorney general, United States attorney, the mayor of New York City, and the personal lawyer to the 45th president of the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/federal-investigators-execute-search-warrant-at-giulianis\">The Washington Examine<\/a>r, the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Manhattan, as well as the FBI, have \u201clong sought to obtain a search warrant for Giuliani\u2019s cellular devices.\u201d The outlet added that \u201c<\/span><span>Senior political appointees in the Justice Department under Trump repeatedly sought to block a search warrant on the former mayor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Since Joe Biden entered office, Rudy Giuliani has been the focus of several sources of criticism.
