This never happened \u2013 either when I was Secretary of State or since,\u201d Kerry tweeted in response to reports of his interactions with Zarif.<\/p>\n<p>Iran International, a London-based outlet, and The New York Times reported that Zarif <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/26\/john-kerry-joe-biden-iran\/\">said in a secret audio recording<\/a> that Kerry had informed him that Israeli forces had struck more than 200 Iranian targets in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>Numerous Republican lawmakers called on Kerry to resign from the National Security Council, where he serves as special envoy on climate issues. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/05\/04\/john-kerry-colludes-iran-deal\/\">(RELATED: John Kerry Colludes With Iran To Undermine American Interests)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I can tell you that this story and these allegations are unequivocally false. This never happened \u2013 either when I was Secretary of State or since. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BTOdFE1khW\">https:\/\/t.co\/BTOdFE1khW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John Kerry (@JohnKerry) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnKerry\/status\/1386822566539632643?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans alleged that Kerry may have disclosed classified information to Zarif.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf this tape is verified, it would signal catastrophic and disqualifying recklessness by Envoy Kerry to Foreign Minister Zarif that endangered the safety of Americans and our allies. And it would be consistent with his long pattern of empowering Iran\u2019s regime,\u201d Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/?p=press_release&#038;id=5775\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a statement<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Jen Psaki and State Department spokesman Ned Price refused to address the reports during press briefings on Monday, saying they do not comment on leaked materials.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry\u2019s denial leaves several questions unanswered.<\/p>\n<p>While Kerry denied the report about Zarif\u2019s remarks, he did not directly accuse the Iranian official of lying during the interview reported by Iran International. The Iranian government has not disputed the authenticity of the audio recording, though it has decried that it was leaked.<\/p>\n<p>The reports about Zarif\u2019s comments, which he made to an Iranian journalist, do not say whether he gave a timeframe for Kerry\u2019s alleged remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s activities in Syria have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/02\/10\/world\/middleeast\/israel-iran-syria.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">widely reported<\/a> for years in the media, but the Israeli government did not officially acknowledge the extent of its military action until September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly just now it was published \u2013 in the name of military sources, so I can quote it too \u2013 that in the last two years Israel has taken military action more than 200 times within Syria itself,\u201d Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz said at the time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-mideast-crisis-israel-syria-iran\/israel-says-struck-iranian-targets-in-syria-200-times-in-last-two-years-idUSKCN1LK2D7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry <a href=\"https:\/\/hughhewitt.com\/former-secretary-of-state-john-kerry-on-his-new-memoir-every-day-is-extra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Sept. 12, 2018, that he had met with Zarif \u201cthree or four times\u201d since leaving government.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry came under scrutiny during the Trump administration over his continued contacts with Zarif.
