Oregon and Colorado also gained one seat.<\/p>\n<p>California, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia all lost one seat.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">States gaining seats in reapportionment:<br \/>\nTexas +2<br \/>\nN. The Census Bureau kicked off the year-long redistricting scramble with its announcement of congressional reapportionment, changing the number of House seats each state will have for the next decade,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/interactives\/2021\/us-census-congress-reapportionment-redistricting-2022-by-state\/\">Politico<\/a>, adding that the actual Congressional maps won\u2019t be redrawn until later in 2021 at the very earliest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut reapportionment amplifies the long-term shift in population and political power from northeast to southwest, which began in the middle of the last century. States like Texas and Florida continue to add seats, while New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio shed them,\u201d Politico added.<\/p>\n<p>As The Hill correspondent, Reid Wilson, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PoliticsReid\/status\/1386760979850072076\">noted<\/a>, Arizona didn\u2019t receive an added seat, and Rhode Island didn\u2019t lose a seat. Some were also surprised that Texas only gained two seats, and not three.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats in New York expressed frustration after the state reportedly lost one congressional seat over just 89 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew York State was narrowly edged out by Minnesota by fewer than 100 people after the Census Bureau Monday released population figures that will determine the make-up of Congress for the next 10 years,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/politics\/us-elections-government\/ny-census-congressional-reapportionment-20210426-pmbczoop2vfkjlgq6uqgahx6wa-story.html\">New York Daily News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New York Magazine also described the \u201cphoto finish\u201d between various states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Q&amp;A session following the reapportionment \u201creveal\u201d Census personnel explained there was something of a photo finish between Minnesota and New York for the last seat awarded. Had New York registered just <i>89<\/i> more people in the census, it would have retained all 27 House seats. California was also pretty close to retaining all of its 53 districts, and Arizona just missed adding one to its current 11 seats,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2021\/04\/new-york-loses-house-seat-after-89-people-didnt-do-census.html\">New York Magazine<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Washington Post, the 2020 Census shows that the United States population grew at the \u201csecond-slowest pace in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first numbers to come out of the 2020 Census show the U.S. population on April 1, 2020 \u2014 Census Day \u2014 was 331.5 million people, an increase of just 7.4 percent between 2010 and 2020. It is the second most sluggish rate of expansion since the government began taking a census in 1790. In the 1930s, the slowest-growth decade, the rate was 7.3 percent,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/interactive\/2021\/2020-census-us-population-results\/?itid=hp-top-table-main\">The Washington Post<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>Another factor is the number of people fleeing \u201cblue states.\u201d For example, according to estimates, 135,600 more people left California than moved there in 2020, \u201conly the 12th time since 1900 the state has had a net migration loss, and the third largest ever recorded,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/12\/16\/californias-growth-rate-at-record-low-as-more-people-leave.html\">CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
