On Sunday night, such a moment came when musician Jon Batiste thanked God after winning the Oscar for Original Score alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Pixar\u2019s \u201cSoul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the top of his speech, Batiste praised God\u2019s musical genius by giving humanity 12 notes to work within, becoming a divine language that has been echoed throughout history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what\u2019s deep is God gave us 12 notes, it\u2019s the same 12 notes that Duke Ellington had, that Bach had, Nina Simone,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to point out that every gift is special. Every contribution with music that comes from the divine into the instruments into the film, into the minds, hearts and souls of every person who hears it, the stories that happen when you listen to it and watch it and the stories you share, the moments you make, the memories you create, man, it\u2019s just so incredibly special. It\u2019s just so incredibly special\u2026 we\u2019re incredibly humbled and thankful. I\u2019m thankful to God for those 12 notes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=ZODqBZke7UU&#038;feature=oembed\">https:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=ZODqBZke7UU&amp;feature=oembed<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>As noted by <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/04\/souls-jon-batiste-wins-oscar-2021-for-best-original-score-1234743702\/#comments\">Deadline<\/a>, Batiste became the \u201cthird Black winner of the original score category after Prince in 1985 for <em>Purple Rain<\/em>\u00a0and Herbie Hancock for\u00a0<em>Round Midnight<\/em> in 1987.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>God rarely gets a mention at the Oscars.\u00a0According to a study by\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vocativ.com\/culture\/tvmovies\/steven-spielberg-oscar-god\/\">Vocativ<\/a><\/em> in 2015 that analyzed 1,396 acceptance speeches, God ranked number six on the list of those who received the most gratitude on Oscar night while disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein ranked number 2:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"37\">\n<p><em>High up at the top of the list is director-cum-mogul Steven Spielberg, who has been thanked an outrageous 42 times from the Oscar podium, not only by people who starred in his movies, like Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln), but also by those who were simply inspired by him, such as Sam Mendes (American Beauty).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ranked\u00a0second, with 25 percent fewer\u00a0nods than Spielberg, is former Miramax and current Weinstein Company head Harvey Weinstein. He\u00a0produced a best picture winner with\u00a0Shakespeare in Love\u00a0and several films that featured Oscar-winning performances, including\u00a0Inglourious Basterds,\u00a0The King\u2019s Speech\u00a0and\u00a0Chicago. When you thank\u00a0Harvey, everyone knows who you\u2019re talking about.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Occupying the next three spots are men known primarily as directors who\u00a0have cumulatively\u00a0produced more than 120 films. James Cameron comes in third with 28 thank-yous, mostly from those who worked behind the scenes on\u00a0Titanic,\u00a0The Terminator\u00a0and\u00a0Avatar.
