The Left would LOSE THEIR MIND.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wETIeSx8K0\">pic.twitter.com\/wETIeSx8K0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ian Haworth (@ighaworth) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ighaworth\/status\/1386741625733488644?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 26, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>\u201cOf the President, of the Vice President?\u201d Psaki responded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe Vice President\u2019s book, yeah.\u201d Doocy clarified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019d have to check with our, uh, Health and Human Services team, are you talking about if they go to shelters, or if they go to\u2026?\u201d Psaki answered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn the welcome kit, apparently, there\u2019s a copy of her 2019 children\u2019s book, \u2018Superheroes Are Everywhere?\u2019\u201d Doocy clarified again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI\u2019d have to certainly check on that, I hear it\u2019s a good book.\u201d answered Psaki.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While it\u2019s certainly important to understand whether Kamala Harris is financially benefiting from the use of taxpayer funds to purchase her book, there is another issue at hand: one of \u201cwhat if?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During Donald Trump\u2019s presidency, multiple members of the Trump administration and others from within his wider circle wrote books. For example, Donald Trump Jr. wrote \u201cTriggered,\u201d which was published in 2019, and Ivanka Trump wrote \u201cWomen Who Work,\u201d which was published in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, let\u2019s imagine the Left\u2019s outrage if federal funds were used to purchase these books in order to distribute them to migrants at the border. It would be reasonable to assume that the Left would \u2014 correctly \u2014 condemn such behavior. After all, Trump\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/08\/24\/donald-trump-used-campaign-funds-to-buy-his-own-book-report.html\"><span>alleged use<\/span><\/a><span> of campaign funds to \u201cto pay Barnes &#038; Noble $55,055 for copies of his own book\u201d was slammed as \u201ca move that might be illegal if the GOP presidential nominee received royalties.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, let\u2019s also imagine that any of Trump\u2019s press secretaries \u2014 be it Sean Spicer, Sarah Sanders, Stephanie Grisham, or Kayleigh McEnany \u2014 had responded to such criticisms by simply avoiding the question and praising the product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Left would \u2014 again, correctly \u2014 be outraged. We\u2019d see another wave of accusations of widespread corruption, of being guilty of a delirious enjoyment in embracing all that is immoral.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>People will undoubtedly respond to overwrought conservative \u201cpouncing\u201d on this issue by relying on the well-used \u201cwhat about Trump\u201d routine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Well, what about Trump?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If we can\u2019t agree that using taxpayer funds to allegedly or potentially enrich elected officials is wrong, regardless of whether they are Republican or Democrat, then there\u2019s not much point even worrying about party any more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>We need to return to some level of consistency.
