Despite the record win, Hopkins was not present Sunday night to accept the award and delivered his acceptance speech from his home in Wales the following morning where he honored the late-actor Chadwick Boseman, who was the expected winner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood morning,\u201d Hopkins said in his acceptance speech. \u201cHere I am in my homeland in Wales and at 83-years-of-age I did not expect to get this award. I really didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman who was taken from us far too early,\u201d Hopkins added.\u00a0\u201cI really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honored. It also didn\u2019t help that the show\u2019s producers chose to climax with the Best Actor category instead of the traditional Best Picture (this was largely interpreted as an ode to Boseman\u2019s potential win).
