However, notice that the \u201cgood\u201d categories are individually specified \u2014 \u201cvery good\u201d and \u201csomewhat good\u201d \u2014 while the \u201cbad\u201d categories are grouped together \u2014 \u201csomewhat\/very bad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Why did they do this? Arguably, to try and insinuate a far greater racial divide on the subject of support for local police than the one that actually exists.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-215115 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-26-at-10.48.31-AM-300x167.png\" alt width=\"453\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-26-at-10.48.31-AM-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-26-at-10.48.31-AM-1024x571.png 1024w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-26-at-10.48.31-AM-768x429.png 768w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-26-at-10.48.31-AM.png 1068w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/div>\n<p><span>A brief scan of the first row of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/chauvin-verdict-opinion-poll\/\">the table<\/a> provided will show \u201c33 percent, 39 percent, 17 percent\u201d for total\/white\/black respondents. Based on the large difference between 39 percent and 17 percent, one could understandably conclude that support for local police is lacking in black communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The second line, though, shows that black Americans are more likely than white Americans to think that their local police are doing a \u201csomewhat good\u201d job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Next, CBS have arguably padded their \u201cgood versus bad\u201d presentation by combining \u201csomewhat bad\u201d and \u201cvery bad\u201d into \u201csomewhat\/very bad,\u201d while not doing the same for \u201cvery good\u201d and \u201csomewhat good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Using the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1TfsvFYS2cgyJVFFeHBGlj5IOcRzlDYnH\/view\"><span>original data<\/span><\/a><span>, if we separate \u201csomewhat bad\u201d and \u201cvery bad,\u201d for example, we see that 11 percent of white Americans think their local police are doing a \u201csomewhat bad\u201d job, compared to 19 percent of black Americans and 16 percent of Hispanic Americans. We also see that 7 percent of white Americans think their local police are doing a \u201cvery bad\u201d job, compared to 11 percent of black Americans and 6 percent of Hispanic Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This racial divide is far less drastic than the \u201cvery good\u201d focus implied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This becomes even more clear when we group consistently and fairly by \u201csomewhat\/very good\u201d and \u201csomewhat\/very bad.\u201d By this metric, 82 percent of white Americans think their local police are doing a \u201cgood\u201d job, compared to 18 percent who do not. 70 percent of black Americans think their local police are doing a \u201cgood\u201d job, compared to 30 percent who do not. 77 percent of Hispanic Americans think their local police are doing a \u201cgood\u201d job, compared to 22 percent who do not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When looking at all poll participants, 79 percent of Americans think their local police are doing a \u201cgood job,\u201d while 21 percent do not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In other words, across all racial categories, the vast majority of Americans believe their local police are doing a good job.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Given that this cuts entirely against the narrative the legacy media wish to promote, is it a surprise that they\u2019re apparently trying to hide this conclusion?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
