Don\u2019t hate anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI refuse to hate someone because they are Mexican or because they are black or white or LBGTQ,\u201d the producer said. \u201cI refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer. I refuse to hate someone because they are Asian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his acceptance speech, Perry recalled a story of a homeless woman he once helped who asked him for shoes. After he took her into his studio and gave her shoes, the woman said, \u201cThank you, Jesus, my feet are off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perry, who is liberal in his politics, turned heads in July when he rejected calls to\u00a0\u201cDefund the Police\u201d by Black Lives Matter activists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, when they saw George Floyd\u2019s death, this horrific, horrible death played out, as this man pleaded for his life and begged, said \u2018please\u2019 many, many times, it \u2014 seeing it changes everything,\u201d Perry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-tyler-perry-says-we-need-more-police-fears-blm-message-being-hijacked\">said<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cSo I became very, very optimistic when everybody galvanized together because I know that\u2019s when change comes. When people galvanize and come together as one, that\u2019s when change happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut lately, I\u2019ve been very, very concerned that the message is being hijacked by some other groups or political ads and parties that are trying to stop the message of what we\u2019re asking for here [is] police reform, right?\u201d the actor continued. \u201cSo, yeah, I was, but I\u2019m worried now because of what I\u2019m seeing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Perry\u00a0called on the Department of Justice to investigate Georgia for its voter integrity laws, claiming without evidence that they akin to Jim Crow laws. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tyler-perry-calls-on-doj-to-investigate-georgia-likens-voter-integrity-law-to-jim-crow\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"26.761852260198\">\n<p><em>In a statement to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/tyler-perry-georgia-voter-legislation-doj-investigate\">Fox News<\/a>, Perry, who runs a television and movie studio in Atlanta, decried the election integrity law as a \u201cvoter suppression law,\u201d declaring it unconstitutional.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs a Georgia resident and business owner I\u2019ve been here a few times with the anti-abortion bill and the LGBTQ discrimination bill,\u201d Perry said. \u201cThey all sent a shockwave through Georgia and the nation but none of them managed to succeed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Perry went as far as to liken the new law to the \u201cJim Crow era,\u201d though he cautioned others against boycotting the state, noting the blue outcome.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m resting my hope in the DOJ taking a hard look at this unconstitutional voter suppression law that harkens to the Jim Crow era,\u201d he continued. \u201cAs some consider boycotting, please remember that we did turn Georgia blue and there is a gubernatorial race on the horizon \u2014 that\u2019s the beauty of a democracy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>WATCH:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.7987987987988\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Refuse hate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Perry accepts Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award &#8220;I refuse to hate someone because they are Mexican or because they are Black or white or LBGTQ.
