Lindsey Graham (R) on Sunday slammed Democrats for blocking Sen. Tim Scott\u2019s (R-SC) legislation that would reform policing in America. He also hit back at the idea that America is \u201csystemically racist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would have police reform in the last Congress, but Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris made a conscious effort to block bringing up Tim Scott\u2019s reform bill,\u201d Graham said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey filibustered Tim Scott\u2019s bill because they didn\u2019t want Tim Scott and President Trump to get credit for it,\u201d Graham continued.<\/p>\n<p>The one area where Democrats and Republicans are still negotiating is on qualified immunity. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ij.org\/issues\/project-on-immunity-and-accountability\/frequently-asked-questions-about-ending-qualified-immunity\/\">idea behind<\/a> the protection is that a civil servant, like law enforcement officers, cannot be sued and held personally responsible for violating a person\u2019s constitutional rights unless a court ruled those rights were \u201cclearly established\u201d and deemed unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>According to Graham, that protection is a \u201cbig deal\u201d for members of law enforcement across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQualified immunity is a very big deal. If you want to destroy policing in America, make sure that every cop can be sued when they leave the house. There\u2019s a way to find qualified immunity reform. Take the cop out of it,\u201d Graham explained. \u201cMy idea, along with Sen. Scott, is you can\u2019t sue the police officer, you sue the department if there\u2019s an allegation of civil rights abuse or constitutional right abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden and other Democrats have repeatedly said that incidents between minorities and law enforcement officers are a result of \u201csystemic racism\u201d in America, particularly in policing. That is something with which Graham strongly disagrees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator, is there systemic racism in this country, in policing and in other institutions?\u201d host Chris Wallace asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUh, no. Not in my opinion,\u201d Graham replied. \u201cWe just elected a two-term African American president,\u201d he said, referencing former President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vice president is of African American, Indian descent, so our systems are not racist,\u201d Graham explained, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris. \u201cAmerica is not a racist country. Within every society, you have bad actors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the media and the Left are zeroing in on the officer-involved killing of 16-year-old Ma\u2019Khia Bryant, Graham said that case differs significantly from the George Floyd case. The main difference is Officer Nicholas Reardon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-three-important-things-the-media-wont-tell-you-about-the-makhia-bryant-case\">was justified<\/a> in using lethal force against Bryant, who was wielding a knife at another teenage girl. It\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/val-demings-goes-to-bat-for-officer-in-makhia-bryant-shooting-it-appears-he-responded-as-he-was-trained-to-do\">conclusion that even<\/a> Democratic Congresswoman and former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings came to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis attack on police and policing \u2014 reform the police, yes.
