In recent years, his practice has increasingly focused on accusations of police brutality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As a result, Crump routinely appears as one of the central figures in high-profile cases regarding alleged police brutality and so-called \u201csystemic racism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, time after time, Crump has \u2014 either intentionally or unintentionally \u2014 spread misinformation regarding his cases, often with disastrous consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Here is a list of times when Crump effectively promoted misinformation regarding high-profile cases of alleged \u201cracial violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Michael Brown<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2014, Crump helped propagate the false \u201chands up, don\u2019t shoot!\u201d narrative following the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRegardless of the decision of the grand jury, this will be a defining moment in the history of the state of Missouri,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/20141119005842\/http:\/\/www.ksdk.com\/story\/news\/local\/2014\/11\/13\/michael-baden-grand-jury-testimony\/18959707\/#selection-4347.0-4351.125\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span> Crump, while it was being determined whether charges should be filed against Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Crump also said at the time that he and others believed \u201cthere is evidence that shows Michael Brown had his hands up.\u201d He was asked if there\u2019s any doubt, and Crump responded, \u201cthere\u2019s no doubt about that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Barack Obama\u2019s Department of Justice, headed by Attorney General Eric Holder, decided that this version of events was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/haworth-biden-kamala-ignore-obama-biden-administrations-own-findings\"><span>untrue<\/span><\/a><span>, finding in its exhaustive investigation of the case that witness accounts and forensic evidence overwhelmingly indicated that Brown did not hold up his hands and surrender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAs detailed in its famous <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/1681212\/doj-report-on-shooting-of-michael-brown.pdf\"><span>final report<\/span><\/a><span>, Obama-Biden administration ultimately concluded that all the available evidence painted an entirely different story than the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/post-partisan\/wp\/2015\/03\/16\/lesson-learned-from-the-shooting-of-michael-brown\/\"><span>racially charged narrative<\/span><\/a><span> that sparked the Ferguson protests and riots. The administration found that evidence indicated that Brown assaulted Officer Wilson, attempted to steal his firearm, and then charged at him,\u201d reported <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/haworth-biden-kamala-ignore-obama-biden-administrations-own-findings\"><span>The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Breonna Taylor<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Weeks after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/myths-misconceptions-about-the-breonna-taylor-case\"><span>Breonna Taylor<\/span><\/a><span> was \u201c<\/span><span>shot and killed by plainclothes police officers who raided her Louisville, Kentucky, home\u201d in March 2020, Crump tweeted, \u201cLouisville Police fatally shot #BreonnaTaylor. They had the wrong address AND their real suspect was already in custody. 2 months later, no one has been held accountable for her death\u2026but we will change that!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9905660377358\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Louisville Police fatally shot <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BreonnaTaylor?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BreonnaTaylor<\/a>. They had the wrong address AND their real suspect was already in custody. 2 months later, no one has been held accountable for her death\u2026 but we will change that! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/JusticeForBreonnaTaylor?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#JusticeForBreonnaTaylor<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SayHerName?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SayHerName<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wytTAozY5l\">pic.twitter.com\/wytTAozY5l<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AttorneyCrump\/status\/1259867794239258628?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 11, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>As noted by The Daily Wire, \u201cthe post contained at least four incorrect or misleading statements about the case that still influence the national discussion today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The officers who raided Breonna\u2019s home were not at the wrong address, the purpose of the raid was to find evidence and not to arrest \u201ctheir real suspect,\u201d they did knock before entering the apartment, neither Walker nor Taylor were in bed when police entered the apartment, and Taylor was not shot eight times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>George Floyd<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>After the death of George Floyd, Crump called for \u201cfirst-degree murder charges\u201d to be leveled against Derek Chauvin.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.8085106382979\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The police were supposed to protect and serve George Floyd. They FAILED. Now I\u2019m calling for first-degree murder charges in the police-involved killing of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GeorgeFloyd?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GeorgeFloyd<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/JusticeForGeorgeFloyd?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BlackLivesMattter?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BlackLivesMattter<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CI0W3QIz9N\">pic.twitter.com\/CI0W3QIz9N<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AttorneyCrump\/status\/1269758805576949760?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 7, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.185\">Minnesota<\/a>, first-degree murder requires both intent and premeditation, meaning that Crump believes that Chauvin set out that day planning to kill George Floyd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Crump made this claim in a piece for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2020\/may\/29\/george-floyd-death-benjamin-crump-jasmine-rand\"><span>The Guardian<\/span><\/a><span> in May 2020, writing, \u201cThe video evidence clearly shows that the officers acted with the intent to kill and with premeditation. Floyd told the officers he could not breathe 12 times, including within the first few seconds of the video.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Video evidence showed that Floyd complained of breathing difficulties both while they attempted to place him in the police car, and when he was detained on the ground outside the car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jacob Blake<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Sharing initial footage, Crump reacted to the shooting of Jacob Blake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWow. This Black man was shot several times in the back by<\/span><span> [Kenosha Police] <\/span><span>today. He was getting into his car after apparently breaking up a fight between two women. He\u2019s in critical condition now. We demand JUSTICE!\u201d Crump tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.6547231270358\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Wow. This Black man was shot several times in the back by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenoshaPolice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KenoshaPolice<\/a> today. He was getting into his car after apparently breaking up a fight between two women. He\u2019s in critical condition now. We demand JUSTICE! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BlackLivesMatter?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BlackLivesMatter<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/I1reDEp4nw\">pic.twitter.com\/I1reDEp4nw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AttorneyCrump\/status\/1297721479711334401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to an audio recording of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-authorities-release-the-911-recording-that-jacob-blakes-ex-girlfriend-made-to-police\"><span>911 call<\/span><\/a><span> that was made, Jacob Blake\u2019s ex-girlfriend, Laquisha Booker, \u201creported that Jacob Blake would not give her back the keys to her rental vehicle and she was afraid he was going to take that vehicle and crash it. She reported he had done that before. So now police know there\u2019s a vehicle in dispute, Jacob Blake already has the keys, and the concern is will he crash that vehicle in an effort to leave.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/08\/28\/this-is-why-jacob-blake-had-a-warrant-out-for-his-arrest\/\"><span>New York Post<\/span><\/a><span>, Blake had an open arrest warrant at the time for felony sexual assault, with Blake\u2019s ex-girlfriend alleging that he \u201cused his finger to sexually assault her, sniffed it and said, \u2018Smells like you\u2019ve been with other men.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After violently resisting arrest, Blake was shot while reaching into his car, and later admitted that he was in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-wisconsin-doj-finds-jacob-blake-had-weapon-on-floorboard-of-car\"><span>possession of a knife<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Regardless of the facts of the case, riots ensued in Kenosha, Wisconsin, causing damage <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenoshanews.com\/news\/local\/damage-due-to-rioting-unrest-in-kenosha-tops-50-million-2-000-guard-assisted-here\/article_26473ec9-c08a-5490-9d09-cc2b840b65f1.html\"><span>estimated to exceed<\/span><\/a><span> $50 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Daunte Wright<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Crump claimed that the reportedly accidental shooting of Daunte Wright \u2014 the man killed after resisting police who were attempting to arrest him on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/daunte-wright-had-outstanding-warrant-for-attempted-aggravated-robbery-when-he-was-killed\">charges<\/a> related to an armed robbery attempt \u2014 was deliberate. The officer who shot Wright now faces second-degree manslaughter charges.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou can spot the difference between a gun and a taser from a mile away! Do you really think a 26 year veteran cop would get the two confused, especially after holding it out infront of her for so long?! Another child lost!
