While police have talked to those responsible, their names were not released.<\/p>\n<p>One homeowner 20 miles away, Heidi Jordan, <a class href=\"https:\/\/www.unionleader.com\/news\/safety\/big-blast-for-gender-reveal-in-kingston-rocks-homes-miles-away\/article_d2fc740d-3d26-5940-a8a1-dd57fbc577d6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> The New Hampshire Union Leader, \u201cI thought for a second that maybe a large dump truck had gone off the road and struck a tree. I also considered that it may have been another minor earthquake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some local residents also said their tap water turned brown following the explosion, the Union-Leader reported.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first mishap with gender reveals.<\/p>\n<p>In February, an expectant father in upstate New York was killed when a device he was constructing for a gender reveal party exploded, according to state police.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Pekny, 28, was building the device to reveal his child\u2019s gender in the Catskills town of Liberty when it blew up. The blast killed Pekny and injured his brother, Michael, 27, who was treated for his injuries at the Garnet Medical Center in Middletown,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2021\/02\/23\/gender-reveal-party-device-explodes-new-york-man-killed\/4553453001\/\">according<\/a>\u00a0to USA Today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Robin Hood diner in Livingston Manor, which has been owned and operated by the Pekny family since the 1980s, mourned the loss of Christopher in a statement,\u201d the paper said. \u201c\u2018We are deeply saddened and must inform you all of the loss of our dear and beloved Christopher,\u201d the family wrote on Facebook. \u201cWe appreciate the overwhelming display of love and support that you all have shown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peter Pekny, the two men\u2019s oldest brother,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/02\/22\/nyregion\/gender-reveal-explosion-ny.html\">told<\/a>\u00a0The New York Times that the blast was \u201cthe freakiest of freak accidents that I could ever imagine.\u201d He also said he didn\u2019t know what caused the explosion, and police released no other details, although similar devices shoot out a pink-or-blue burst to reveal the sex of the baby.<\/p>\n<p>Also in February, a 26-year-old Michigan man died after he was struck by shrapnel from a cannon being used at a baby shower.<\/p>\n<p>And in September 2020, a gender reveal pyrotechnic device ignited a massive wildfire in southern California.
