He is one of the most inspiring and unifying leaders in our nation \u2026 As Sen. Scott likes to say, he is living his mother\u2019s American dream, and he has dedicated his career to creating more opportunity for our fellow citizens who need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On <a href=\"http:\/\/@SenatorTimScott%20%20is%20not%20just%20one%20of%20the%20strongest%20leaders%20in%20the%20Senate.%20He%20is%20one%20of%20the%20most%20inspiring%20and%20unifying%20leaders%20in%20our%20nation.%20I'm%20glad%20he%E2%80%99ll%20be%20delivering%20the%20Republican%20Address%20following%20the%20President%E2%80%99s%20remarks%20on%20Wednesday.\"><span class=\"s1\">Twitter<\/span><\/a>, McConnell wrote that Sen. I\u2019m glad he\u2019ll be delivering the Republican Address following the President\u2019s remarks on Wednesday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe face serious challenges on multiple fronts, but I am as confident as I have ever been in the promise and potential of America,\u201d Scott said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/04\/22\/989993117\/republican-sen-tim-scott-will-deliver-gop-response-to-biden-address\">statement<\/a>. \u201cI look forward to having an honest conversation with the American people and sharing Republicans\u2019 optimistic vision for expanding opportunity and empowering working families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At the virtual Republican National Convention last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tim-scott-inspires-our-family-went-from-cotton-to-congress-in-one-lifetime\"><span class=\"s1\">Scott inspired viewers<\/span><\/a> with his family\u2019s success story. \u201cOur family went from cotton to Congress in one lifetime,\u201d said Scott, who\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-high-ranking-dem-senator-calls-black-sen-tim-scotts-bill-token-approach-scott-fires-back\"><span class=\"s1\">routinely<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/vile-leftist-racially-attacks-republican-senator-amanda-prestigiacomo\"><span class=\"s1\">maligned<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for being a black Republican. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I believe the next American century can be better than the last.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cDo we want a society that breeds success, or a culture that cancels everything it even slightly disagrees with?\u201d Scott continued in his remarks. \u201cI know where I stand, because you see, I am living my mother\u2019s American Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cMy parents divorced when I was 7 years old,\u201d Scott went on. \u201cWe lived in a two-bedroom house with my grandparents; me, my mom, and my brother sharing a room and a bed. My mom worked 16 hours a day to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. She knew that if we could find the opportunity, bigger things would come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Last summer, Scott led the push for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-republicans-unveil-justice-act-in-bid-to-beat-house-democrats-to-police-reform\"><span class=\"s1\">comprehensive police reform bill<\/span><\/a> that would create a national \u201cenhanced use-of-force database, pursue restrictions on chokeholds and create new commissions to study law enforcement and race,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/senate-republicans-release-police-reform-legislation\"><span class=\"s1\">Fox News reported<\/span><\/a>. However, Democrats blocked the legislation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Tuesday, Scott released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scott.senate.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/senator-tim-scott-statement-on-the-verdict-in-the-derek-chauvin-trial\"><span class=\"s1\">statement<\/span><\/a> on the verdict in the George Floyd case in which a jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of three charges relating to the death of Floyd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Scott\u2019s statement reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"15\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>\u201cGeorge Floyd died because Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck and stopped him from breathing for more than nine minutes. There is no question in my mind that the jury reached the right verdict,\u201d\u00a0<\/i><b><i>said Senator Scott.<\/i><\/b><i>\u00a0\u201cWhile this outcome should give us renewed confidence in the integrity of our justice system, we know there is more work to be done to ensure the bad apples do not define all officers\u2014the vast majority of whom put on the uniform each day with integrity and servant hearts. We must all come together to help repair the tenuous relationship between law enforcement and Black and minority Americans.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><i>\u201cTo deny the progress we\u2019ve made is just as damaging as not making progress at all. I urge people across this nation to peacefully make their voices heard and engage in conversations that will continue to move us toward a more just America. I believe in the goodness of our country; we can and will do better.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Scott plans to reintroduce his previous bill or a similar measure in the next few weeks.
