Just last month, for example, Portnoy took on a hockey commentator who accused Barstool Sports, the media company he founded in the early 2000s, of having a history of \u201cunapologetic\u201d racism and misogyny.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.2537313432836\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I know people say I should ignore guys like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GMillerTSN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GMillerTSN<\/a>  But I\u2019ll never be able to do that.  Barstool is 20 years of my life\u2019s work.  I\u2019m proud of it.  I\u2019m proud of our fans.  He attacked everything I\u2019m about.   If you don\u2019t fight back against that what do you fight back against?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stoolpresidente\/status\/1372045068484370433?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Portnoy told Shapiro in an interview airing Sunday, April 25, that he\u2019s willing to debate with anyone \u2014 even in front of a crowd \u2014 but that he\u2019s not willing to just stand around and take it when critics come at him first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere is an audience that appreciates, and it\u2019s not even Left or Right, it\u2019s kind of both, like, \u2018I like how these guys aren\u2019t backing down.\u2019 And our audience allows us to do that, so people have always asked, \u2018Why do you fight back\u2019 or \u2018Why do you push back\u2019 or \u2018Why don\u2019t you just shut up when someone takes a shot at you that you feel is unfair,\u2019 it\u2019s like, I\u2019m not going to do that. I will never throw the first punch, but if you throw a shot at me on Twitter \u2014 out of the clouds \u2014 it\u2019s not my responsibility to protect you,\u201d said Portnoy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI will never throw the first punch, but if you throw a shot at me on Twitter \u2014 out of the clouds \u2014 it\u2019s not my responsibility to protect you,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Portnoy also talked about his repeated run-ins with the NFL, like the time security escorted him away from NFL headquarters for protesting in defense of Tom Brady during DeflateGate \u2014 or the time he was kicked out of the Super Bowl at half-time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhen they suspended him for four games, we went and protested and \u2013 myself and three other Patriot fans who work for me \u2014 handcuffed ourselves to each other at NFL headquarters,\u201d the Barstool sports founder told Shapiro. \u201cWe got arrested, spent a night in jail for that, and it continued to escalate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI got dragged out of the Super Bowl, it was Patriots-Rams Super Bowl. I bought tickets, and at half-time, they literally had about ten security guards drag me out, in hand-cuffs, because they banned me from the Super Bowl,\u201d added Portnoy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Even when sports leagues take a moral stand, Portnoy said, they\u2019re not concerned with morality; They\u2019re more concerned about making money or trying to appease fans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe can agree morally whether something is right, or a protest is right, but I just don\u2019t buy that with the leagues.
