On Wednesday, the State Department called for de-escalation of military tensions in northeast Africa while pointing out security threats are undermining humanitarian relief efforts in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t seen any evidence that Eritrean troops are withdrawing from Tigray despite the commitments made by both Ethiopia and Eritrea,\u201d stated State Department spokesman Ned Price. \u201cWe urge their immediate, full withdrawal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. diplomats have also condemned the recent killing of Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno who was reelected in an allegedly fraudulent election after 31-years in office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertainly the violence in Chad is gravely disturbing, but we\u2019re watching closely as the political situation evolves,\u201d Price continued. \u201cWe want to see a peaceful, democratic transition of power to a civilian-led government.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We offer our sincere condolences to the people of Chad as they mourn the passing of President Idriss Deby Itno.
