Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) revealed Thursday during a hearing of the House Intelligence Committee that FBI agents privately briefed the targeted congressional Republicans in 2017 on the controversial determination that the shooting was deemed a \u201csuicide by cop\u201d incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch to our shock that day, the FBI concluded that this was a case of the attacker seeking suicide by cop,\u201d said Wenstrup. \u201cDirector, you want suicide by cop, you just pull a gun on a cop. It doesn\u2019t take 136 rounds. It takes one bullet. Both the DHS and the (Office of the Director of National Intelligence) published products labeling this attack as a domestic violent extremism event, specifically targeting Republican members of Congress. The FBI did not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FBI director at the time of the determination was Andrew McCabe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRep. Brad Wenstrup, who dodged bullets that day and helped triage injured lawmakers, said the FBI privately briefed them on that conclusion in late 2017. He\u2019s demanding that it reopen its review and declare the incident \u2018domestic terrorism,&#8217;\u201d Cheney reported. \u201cWray did not respond to his criticism directly. But multiple other lawmakers, including two Democrats, said they shared Wenstrup\u2019s concerns about the bureau\u2019s conclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA)\u00a0was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/politics-has-no-place-for-violence-steve-scalise-slams-capitol-attacks-in-wsj-essay\">seriously wounded<\/a> during the 2017 attack, sustaining a gunshot wound to his hip that \u201ctraveled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs, and causing severe bleeding,\u201d according to Scalise\u2019s medical team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was shot by a deranged Leftist who came to the baseball field with a list of Congressional Republicans to kill,\u201d Scalise publicly responded to the FBI determination on Wednesday. \u201cThis was NOT \u2018suicide by cop.\u2019 End of story.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.926724137931\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I was shot by a deranged Leftist who came to the baseball field with a list of Congressional Republicans to kill.<\/p>\n<p>This was NOT \u201csuicide by cop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>End of story. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cSGYZeQO3I\">https:\/\/t.co\/cSGYZeQO3I<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steve Scalise (@SteveScalise) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveScalise\/status\/1384935827810263041?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The shooter was a registered Democrat who had been a former volunteer for Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019 (I-VT) presidential campaign and radicalized against Republicans. Republican Florida Governor\u00a0Ron DeSantis\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/james-hodgkinson-shooting-sanders-supporter-625792\">said<\/a> he was asked by the would-be shooter before the attack if those on the baseball field were Republicans or Democrats.
