Brinson said he believes that had the officer not acted as he did, more people may have died, Brinson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/2021\/04\/21\/video-makhia-bryant-shooting-garage-camera-shows-argument\/7321183002\/\">The Columbus Dispatch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe immediately thought about his security camera on his garage. He watched the footage. He saw the fight, saw the glint of the knife, the Dispatch reported. \u201cAnd while what happened is tragic, Brinson said, it all happened so fast that he didn\u2019t see how the officer could have time to have done anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe referenced the girl seen in both police body-camera footage and on his own camera footage who was wearing pink who was the second female engaged with Bryant in the scuffle. Brinson said he really thinks more people might have died had police not taken action,\u201d the outlet continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was violent and all just happened so fast,\u201d Brinson said.<\/p>\n<p>Bryant, 16, \u00a0died Tuesday after a police officer shot her as she lunged with a knife at another girl. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-three-important-things-the-media-wont-tell-you-about-the-makhia-bryant-case\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.10tv.com\/article\/news\/local\/16-year-old-girl-shot-and-killed-by-police-officer-in-southeast-columbus\/530-c77bb47e-97d1-47b5-8ed8-099c105a0f20\">WBNS-TV<\/a>, officers in Columbus, Ohio received a 911 call from a distressed individual saying multiple women were attempting to stab her. Bodycam footage from the incident showed officers arriving to find Bryant wielding a knife at two girls, at which point the responding officer stepped in and fired his service weapon as she appeared to be attempting to stab one of the victims.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cShe came at her with a knife,\u201d an officer can be heard saying in the video.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bryant was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bryant\u2019s death sparked protests and calls for accountability in Columbus as Black Lives Matter activists and others connected Bryant\u2019s death with alleged systemic racism in policing. Experts have said the officer had no other clear option, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy first impression is that the officer was legally justified in using deadly force,\u201d Philip Stinson, a criminal-justice professor at Bowling Green State University told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2021\/04\/22\/columbus-police-shooting-makhia-bryant-appears-lawful\/7318300002\/\">Dispatch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a terribly tragic situation, and my heart goes out to the girl and her family and friends,\u201d he said. \u201cBut from looking at the video, it appears to me that a reasonable police officer would have had a reasonable apprehension of an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death being imposed against an officer or someone else. That\u2019s the legal standard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White House Press Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/she-was-a-child-white-house-calls-fatal-police-shooting-of-black-teen-in-ohio-tragic\">Jen Psaki<\/a> said Bryant\u2019s death was \u201ctragic\u201d and Bryant was \u201cjust a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe killing of 16-year-old Ma\u2019Khia Bryant by Columbus police is tragic. She was a child. We are thinking of her friends and family and the communities that are grieving her loss,\u201d Psaki said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that police violence disproportionately impacts Black and Latino communities and that Black women and girls, like Black men and boys, experience higher rates of police violence.
