On Wednesday, Governor Mike Dewine (R) said the goal will be to build trust between officers and their communities while increasing police accountability.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Some things in front of the general assembly in the budget: $10 million grant for local law enforcement body cameras and $1 million grant to support agencies to recruit women and minorities. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nbc4i?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nbc4i<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adrienne Robbins (@ARobbinsTV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ARobbinsTV\/status\/1384931607811960832?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If it is passed, the bill would create a Peace Officer Oversight Committee, a database of officer discipline and require police training once a year, among other provisions.<\/p>\n<p>DeWine said the bill has been in the works for some time and does include input from law enforcement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The bill will also require an independent investigation of officer-involved critical incidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Mike DeWine (@GovMikeDeWine) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovMikeDeWine\/status\/1384934677048434688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf this bill is passed, it will put Ohio at the forefront,\u201d Gov. DeWine said. \u201cWe will be able to say we have gotten serious about this, we respect our police. A great majority of police do wonderful jobs.
