While the bulk of Hollywood A-list talent has yet to condemn his behavior en masse, some companies have begun severing ties with him.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/news\/scott-rudin-abuse-allegations-bullying-a24-1234955659\/\">Variety<\/a>, the independent movie studio A24 has now severed all business ties with Rudin despite him having produced such films like \u201cLady Bird\u201d and \u201cUncut Gems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe producer had no formal first-look deal with the company, but many of his projects found a natural home at the studio, where Rudin\u2019s high-pedigree taste complemented A24\u2019s filmmaker-friendly style,\u201d reported Variety. \u201cRudin will no longer be involved with such upcoming A24 releases as \u2018The Tragedy of Macbeth\u2019 and \u2018The Humans.\u2019 He was also attached to Alex Garland\u2019s \u2018Men\u2019 and \u2018Red, White and Water\u2019 \u2014 a war drama that will star Jennifer Lawrence \u2014 but will also exit those projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProjects that Rudin had in development with the studio, such as an adaptation of the 2020 bestseller \u2018Shuggie Bain,\u2019 are expected to continue at A24, albeit without the producer\u2019s involvement. It\u2019s unclear if Rudin and A24 came to any type of financial settlement,\u201d the report added.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy expose for The Hollywood Reporter (THR) earlier this month, several of Rudin\u2019s former staffers alleged that the producer, who already had a reputation for being hot-tempered, would regularly engage in verbally and physically abusive behavior in the office. One particularly nasty incident involved him allegedly smashing an Apple computer over an assistant\u2019s hand, sending him to the emergency room.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Saturday, Rudin said that he will be stepping away from his role in current Broadway productions as he takes \u201ccertain steps\u201d to address his behavior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-62 Component-p-0-2-53\">\u201cAfter a period of reflection, I\u2019ve made the decision to step back from active participation on our Broadway productions, effective immediately. My roles will be filled by others from the Broadway community and in a number of cases, from the roster of participants already in place on those shows,\u201d Rudin said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-62 Component-p-0-2-53\">\u201cMuch has been written about my history of troubling interactions with colleagues, and I am profoundly sorry for the pain my behavior caused to individuals, directly and indirectly. I am now taking steps that I should have taken years ago to address this behavior,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy passionate hope and expectation is that Broadway will reopen successfully very soon, and that the many talented artists associated with it will once again begin to thrive and share their artistry with the world. I do not want any controversy associated with me to interrupt Broadway\u2019s well deserved return, or specifically, the return of the 1,500 people working on these shows,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-62 Component-p-0-2-53\">Thus far, the biggest name in the industry to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-hollywood-producer-megan-ellison-accuses-scott-rudin-of-abusive-racist-sexist-behavior\">publicly rebuke Rudin<\/a>\u00a0is Annapurna co-founder Megan Ellison. In a tweet earlier this month, Ellison alleged that Rudin engaged in sexist and racist behavior beyond the allegations of physical and mental abuse detailed in the THR article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis piece barely scratches the surface of Scott Rudin\u2019s abusive, racist, and sexist behavior. Similarly to Harvey, too many are afraid to speak out. I support and applaud those who did.
