Bodycam footage from the incident showed officers arriving to find Bryant wielding a knife at two girls, at which point the responding officer stepped in and fired his service weapon as she appeared to be attempting to stab one of the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe came at her with a knife,\u201d an officer can be heard saying in the video.<\/p>\n<p>Bryant was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>Once news of the incident broke, the media, along with celebrities and the Black Lives Matter movement rushed to paint a picture of yet another unjust police shooting, downplaying or ignoring key details in an attempt to further their desired narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three things they\u2019re refusing to mention about the case.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Bryant was wielding a knife<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The bodycam footage shows a knife in Bryant\u2019s right hand and two girls running away from her.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9770992366412\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Slow motion body cam footage from the officer involved shooting of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MakhiaBryant?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MakhiaBryant<\/a> in Ohio. The rush to judgment was based on one reporter\u2019s cherry-picked facts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WBNS reporter Lacey Crisp broke the story on Twitter and provided updates about BLM\u2019s response. Crisp spoke with Ma\u2019Khia\u2019s mother, Paula Bryant, who said Columbus Police shot and killed her daughter.<\/p>\n<p>In the interview, Paula Bryant characterized her daughter as someone who was \u201cpeaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was a very loving, peaceful little girl. She was 16-years-old. She was an honor roll student,\u201d Paula Bryant said. \u201cMa\u2019Khia had a motherly nature about her. She promoted peace. And that\u2019s something that I want to always be remembered.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.8927203065134\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Paula Bryant tells me her 16 year-old daughter Ma\u2019Khia Bryant was an honor roll student and a sweet child. The story now reflects that prominent piece of the puzzle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to Interim Chief Michael Woods, a caller reported females were trying to stab them. A dispatcher tried to obtain more information but was unable to before the call was disconnected,\u201d the article reads. \u201cThe footage released by police came from the first officer on the scene. In the video, the teen appears to attempt to stab two people with a knife before the officer fires his weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not once on Crisp\u2019s Twitter account does she mention a knife, let alone that Bryant was attempting to stab multiple people.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.7911646586345\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Family tells us the person who was fatally shot by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ColumbusPolice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ColumbusPolice<\/a> was 15 year-old Makiah Bryant. They say she called cops for help because girls were fighting outside her house. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/g2eayG2MHW\">pic.twitter.com\/g2eayG2MHW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lacey Crisp (@LaceyCrisp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaceyCrisp\/status\/1384655872522178560?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.1951219512195\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Paula Bryant\u2019s 16-year-old daughter, Ma\u2019Khia was fatally shot by a Columbus police officer on the city\u2019s southeast side on Tuesday. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PnEVzoMzpl\">https:\/\/t.co\/PnEVzoMzpl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lacey Crisp (@LaceyCrisp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LaceyCrisp\/status\/1384792782427066369?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Leaving out this vital piece of information meant Twitter, national reporters, and activists<em> assumed<\/em> the officer shot an innocent child for no reason.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter description of the event <em>still<\/em> doesn\u2019t include any mention of the knife:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"13\">\n<p>Paula Bryant told reporters at the scene of the incident that her daughter, 16-year-old Makhia Bryant, was shot and killed by an officer in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday afternoon. Columbus Police have since released body-cam footage from the officer who fired his gun, who has been \u201ctaken off the street\u201d while the criminal investigation is ongoing. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said based on the footage \u201cthe officer took action to protect another young girl in our community\u201d. Protesters have gathered on Legion Lane where the shooting took place and outside Columbus Police Headquarters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>3. The media follows the narrative set by Black Lives Matter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Attorney Ben Crump, who has represented the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Trayvon Martin, took to Twitter to claim Bryant was \u201cunarmed.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.5119047619048\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ColumbusPolice?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ColumbusPolice<\/a> killed an unarmed 15yo Black girl named Makiyah Bryant. Another child lost! Another hashtag. \u270a\ud83c\udffe\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/JusticeForMakiyahBryant?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#JusticeForMakiyahBryant<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9ssR5gfqm5\">https:\/\/t.co\/9ssR5gfqm5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AttorneyCrump\/status\/1384667861642358785?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The New York Times decided to quote Crump, but they omitted the line about Bryant being unarmed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/nyt-crump-unarmed-shot-cpd\">The Washington Examiner<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018As we breathe a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another policy shooting\u2019 Mr. Crump said. \u2018Another child lost! Another hashtag,&#8217;\u201d the NYT wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Beast\u2019s article stated Bryant \u201chad already dropped the knife in the yard. But police shot her four times without any warning.\u201d The statement was based on an account Bryant\u2019s grandparents provided, even though it ran counter to what the bodycam footage showed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"4.7010309278351\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Media vs bodycam <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IYtlQELyhq\">pic.twitter.com\/IYtlQELyhq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Peace Promoter Poso (@JackPosobiec) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/1384710906186174466?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Users on social media continue to share TikTok videos of Bryant dancing and doing her hair in an attempt to bring <em>even more\u00a0<\/em>emotion into an already emotionally charged situation. The nation was on edge with the Chauvin verdict and the timing of this incident added fuel to that fire.<\/p>\n<p>This case, like so many before it, needs to be looked at with a clear head and <em>all\u00a0<\/em>the facts presented.
