Following a struggle to get Floyd into the back of a police cruiser, viral video shows that Chauvin kneeled on Floyd\u2019s neck and back for nearly nine minutes to detain Floyd while awaiting paramedics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Floyd\u2019s death sparked waves of protests and riots worldwide, as the Black Lives Matter movement rocketed to further prominence in the political and cultural arena.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Democrats reacted with jubilation when the verdict was announced, with Nancy Pelosi thanking George Floyd for \u201csacrificing\u201d his life for justice.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.6451612903226\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Nancy Pelosi thanks <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GeorgeFloyd?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GeorgeFloyd<\/a> for being brutally murdered.<\/p>\n<p>This is heinous.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/klFoiDZE8F\">pic.twitter.com\/klFoiDZE8F<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Peter Daou (@peterdaou) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/peterdaou\/status\/1384628658099429377?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>However, there were also several high-profile conservatives who spoke out in favor of the controversial decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Tim Scott<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>Sen. Tim Scott released a statement on Twitter, saying that\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201cGeorge Floyd died because Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck and stopped him from breathing for more than nine minutes. There is no question in my mind that the jury reached the right verdict,\u201d said Scott.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhile this outcome should give us renewed confidence in the integrity of our justice system, we know there is more work to be done to ensure that bad apples do not define all officers \u2014 the vast majority of whom put on the uniform each day with integrity and servant hearts. We must all come together to help repair the tenuous relationship between law enforcement and Black and minority Americans,\u201d Scott continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo deny the progress we\u2019ve made is just as damaging as not making progress at all. I urge people across this nation to peacefully make their voices heard and engage in conversations that will continue to move us toward a more just America. I believe in the goodness of our country; we can and will do better,\u201d Scott concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jim Jordan<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>According to CNN\u2019s Manu Raju, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said \u201cThe justice system works.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>Several conservative House Republicans offering no objections to the Chauvin verdict.
