That sounds like fun; let us know if you hear any good stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut before Bezos drops any more of his billions on opposition research, you should know that it will not affect any election outcome,\u201d Carlson continued sardonically. \u201cThis is a news show, it\u2019s not a political campaign. No one here is running for anything or plans to. On the other hand, if Jeff Bezos wants to come over to reminisce about 1987 on this show, he is always welcome, anytime.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.2156133829\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jeff Bezos had one of his \u201cminions\u201d, a former classmate of Tucker Carlson, call around to other former classmates and ask if Tucker had \u201cdone anything naughty at the age of 19\u201d. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/atngDgIxEA\">pic.twitter.com\/atngDgIxEA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Post Millennial (@TPostMillennial) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TPostMillennial\/status\/1384689469329186816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cFox News generally, and Carlson specifically, have been frequent subjects of Wemple\u2019s columns. He has referenced the host in the headlines of five columns this year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/549438-tutcker-carlson-blasts-washington-post-columnist\">The Hill<\/a> noted.<\/p>\n<p>As far back as 2017, Wemple was targeting Carlson; he wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/erik-wemple\/wp\/2017\/11\/29\/i-cant-reveal-my-confidential-sources-mr-wemple-the-tucker-carlson-interview\/\">an opinion piece<\/a> in November 2017 in which he noted a long exchange he had with Carlson in which Wemple asked Carlson about a reporter whom The Daily Caller, which Carlson had founded, had hired back in 2014 who had previously posted racist tracts.<\/p>\n<p>Wemple pressed, \u201cDid you ever read any of that? Did those writings serve as a qualification for him in any way?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson fired back,\u00a0\u201cYeah, I mean, I think you know as well as I that a) I don\u2019t supervise the Daily Caller or have any role in his management whatsoever and haven\u2019t in over a year, per my contract here at Fox. So I had no role in the response to those blog posts that he apparently wrote. I have no knowledge beyond what you just said. My understanding is that all of those were unearthed later, and I think that you would know that, too. And so your question isn\u2019t so much a question; it\u2019s an attempt to tar me once again \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wemple interacted, \u201cNo, it\u2019s an actual question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson continued, \u201c\u2014 with views I don\u2019t hold. So why don\u2019t we just skip the middleman here and get right to it? Why don\u2019t you ask me a series of actual questions about what I think or don\u2019t think and I\u2019ll tell you? Would that be easier? Because you\u2019re trying to suggest that I\u2019m a secret racist who like, is friends with David Duke, or, he likes me, therefore it\u2019s my fault somehow. Or someone I once hired \u2014 who by the way is an excellent reporter \u2014 wrote awful things on an anonymous blog post years ago. And that, as you put it, might have been a qualification for me hiring him? You know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wemple pressed again, \u201cWell that\u2019s all I wanted to know, whether you knew about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlson answered,\u201d I guess what bothers me is, you\u2019re again trying to use something that I knew nothing about to try and tar me. And I\u2019m inviting you, for the fourth time, to ask me direct questions about what I think. You\u2019re looking for witches, and I\u2019m telling you, if I\u2019m practicing witchcraft, I\u2019ll admit it. So why don\u2019t you just ask me? Pick five topics and I\u2019ll answer the question as honestly as I possibly can. Wouldn\u2019t that just be easier? Instead of going through this whole like childish, \u2018Someone who worked for you once wrote something naughty online \u2014 did you know?\u2019 It\u2019s like, I don\u2019t know, why you just ask me what I think?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are very complicated and they do bad things, then they get better and they change their mind, and you know what I mean?\u201d Carlson asserted. \u201cThis is real life. This is not some pretend thing where you\u2019re the sum total of the dumbest thing you ever wrote on the Internet.
