The fliers condemned the conservative activist group and its \u201cProfessor Watchlist,\u201d which ranks how biased and progressive professors are.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The flier read:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"21\">\n<p><i><span>This racist college professor thought it would be a great idea to help start a Tennessee Tech chapter for this national hate group, where racist students can unite to harass, threaten, intimidate, and terrorize persons of color, feminists, liberals, and the like, especially their teachers.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Their organization created a national \u2018Professor Watchlist\u2019 to harass and intimidate progressive educators, including many women, African-American, and Muslim professors.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In the middle of the flier was a picture of Donadio. The photo was captioned, \u201cProfessor Donadio and Turning Point USA: You are on our list. Your hate and hypocrisy are not welcome at Tennessee Tech. No unity with racists. Hate speech is not free speech.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_213175\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-213175\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-213175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-10.24.51-AM-227x300.png\" alt width=\"600\" height=\"791\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-10.24.51-AM-227x300.png 227w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-10.24.51-AM-437x576.png 437w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-10.24.51-AM-768x1013.png 768w, https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-10.24.51-AM.png 890w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-213175\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>via Tennessee Star<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Smith and Gruber believe that \u201chate speech\u201d is not protected by the First Amendment, though they are arguing that their criticism and name-calling of a professor is protected by the First Amendment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The quarrel began in February when the local county school board considered forming a committee to rename Algood Middle School\u2019s mascot from the Redskins to something less \u201coffensive\u201d to Native Americans. When the mascot committee failed to form, Donadio allegedly applauded during a February school board meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Sitting nearby was Gruber, who was in favor of renaming the Redskins mascot. According to Inside Higher Ed, Gruber allegedly went home and texted about the clapping incident with Smith. The two decided to create fliers about Donadio and place them around the nursing school building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tennessee Tech declined to comment on the case to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2021\/04\/20\/tennessee-tech-professors-face-discipline-calling-colleague-racist\"><span>Inside Higher Ed<\/span><\/a><span>, though it claims that the university is \u201ccurrently following its personnel policy and procedures. No disciplinary action has been taken at this time.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite the ongoing investigation, Smith recently encouraged students to heckle Turning Point USA students and supporters at an event in Nashville with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and The Daily Wire\u2019s Candace Owens. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/2021\/04\/02\/you-are-on-our-list-professors-put-up-campus-fliers-threatening-professor-and-students-over-accused-racism-hate-group-activity-for-turning-point-usa-affiliation\/\"><span>Tennessee Star<\/span><\/a><span> screenshotted a post from Smith that read, \u201cAny of my Nashville Good Trouble crew going to call out these fascists tonight?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a separate Facebook post, Gruber accused Donadio of affiliating with the Proud Boys, a right-wing extremist group. Gruber also told the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/herald-citizen.com\/stories\/tech-investigates-complaint-over-fliers-labeling-professor-racist,48242\"><span>Herald Citizen<\/span><\/a><span> that she was \u201crelieved\u201d that Donadio did not like being called a racist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am relieved to learn that Mr. Donadio has issues with being called a racist.
