Maxine Waters is the embodiment of a career politician.<\/p>\n<p>The 81-year-old Democrat has served as the U.S. representative for California\u2019s 43rd Congressional District since 1991 \u2014 30 years. Before that she served in the California State Assembly \u2014 for 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s nearly half a century on the public dole, drawing a paycheck as well as an expense and travel account paid for by taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>In that time \u2014 even with a paltry civil servant salary \u2014 Waters has gotten plenty rich. Her net worth is around $2 million, according to one estimate, and she lives in a house reportedly worth about $4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Waters has also been named one of Congress\u2019 \u201cmost corrupt\u201d members \u2014 four times. The liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington put Waters on its list of corrupt members of Congress in its 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011 reports.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, The Los Angeles Times reported that Waters\u2019 relatives \u201chave made more than $1 million in the last eight years by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that the influential congresswoman has helped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters is also the quintessential race-baiter. Like the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Waters often parachutes into hotspots that have suffered a racial incident just to stoke the flames.<\/p>\n<p>She did that again last weekend, when she flew into Minnesota (where she demanded police protection) and joined the seventh consecutive night of protests in a Minneapolis suburb over the death of Daunte Wright, a young black man shot dead by a white policewoman who had sought to arrest him on a warrant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got to get more active, we\u2019ve got to get more confrontational,\u201d Waters said as she spoke to crowds of demonstrators. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cWe\u2019ve got to fight for justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next day, two National Guardsmen were injured after being fired at in what authorities said was a drive-by shooting in Minneapolis. Both suffered minor wounds.<\/p>\n<p>Waters\u2019 call to be \u201cmore confrontational\u201d drew immediate rebukes from lawmakers of both parties \u2014 although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she doesn\u2019t need to apologize for her comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaxine talked about confrontation in the manner of the civil rights movement,\u201d Mrs. Pelosi said. \u201cI myself think we should take our lead from the George Floyd family. They\u2019ve handled this with great dignity and no ambiguity or lack of \u2014 misinterpretation by the other side. No, I don\u2019t think she should apologize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the Waters comments could incite violence, Mrs. Pelosi said, \u201cNo, absolutely not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But others said just the opposite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy is Maxine Waters traveling to a different state trying to incite a riot? What good can come from this?\u201d Rep. Lauren Boebert, Colorado Republican, wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Radical Left don\u2019t care if your towns are burning, if there\u2019s violence in your streets, or if the police are too defunded to defend their communities. As long as the Left appeases their anti-America base, their job is done,\u201d Rep. Andy Biggs, Arizona Republican, wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Georgia Republican, announced plans to introduce a resolution to expel Waters from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery soon I\u2019ll be introducing a resolution to expel Rep. Maxine Waters from Congress for her continual incitement of violence on innocent American people. Rep Waters is a danger to our society,\u201d she wrote on Twitter. \u201cAfter traveling across state lines to incite riots, her orders recorded on video last night at the Brooklyn Center, directly led to more violence and a drive by shooting on National Guardsmen in Minnesota early this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters\u2019 injudicious words came just before closing arguments in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who has been charged with murder in Floyd\u2019s Memorial Day death. Even the judge in the case took note of Waters\u2019 incendiary call for confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Peter Cahill was asked by Eric Nelson, Chauvin\u2019s defense attorney, to declare a mistrial due to Waters\u2019 comments. He denied the request, but added, \u201cI\u2019ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m aware that Congresswoman Waters was talking specifically about this trial and about the unacceptability of anything less than a murder conviction and talk about being confrontational,\u201d Judge Cahill later added. \u201cThis goes back to what I\u2019ve been saying from the beginning. I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that is disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch and our function.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think if they want to give their opinions, they should do so in a respectful \u2026 manner that is consistent with their oath to the Constitution, to respect a co-equal branch of government. Their failure to do so I think is abhorrent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the fact that an 81-year-old career politician doesn\u2019t know that is equally abhorrent.
