He was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the announcement was made, politicians and political pundits hit the airwaves with their thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>These are five of the most stunning takes thus far.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) thanked George Floyd for \u201csacrificing\u201d his \u201clife for justice.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo again, thank you, George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice, for being there to call out to your mom,\u201d Pelosi said during a press conference with the Congressional Black Caucus. \u201cHow heartbreaking was that, call out for your mom, \u2018I can\u2019t breathe\u2019? Courteney Ross, George Floyd\u2019s girlfriend, thanked him for giving \u201chis life\u201d for others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved him with all my heart and I\u2019d do anything to have him standing next to me,\u201d Ross told a crowd. \u201cBut I know \u2013 I know \u2013 he gave his life so this could happen. And I know he gave his life so that other people\u2019s cases can get reopened and we can reexamine the cases that were closed. Fox News\u2019 Greg Gutfeld said he was happy with the verdict for \u201cselfish\u201d reasons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd now I\u2019m just going to get really selfish. I\u2019m glad that he was found guilty on all charges, even if he might not be guilty of all charges,\u201d Gutfeld said as his colleagues groaned. \u201cI\u2019m happy that he\u2019s guilty of all charges because I want a verdict that keeps this country from going up in flames.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Judge Jeanine Pirro gasped, Gutfeld explained himself further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m at least being honest,\u201d he replied. \u201cMy neighborhood was looted. I don\u2019t ever want to go through that again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not sacrifice individuals for the sake of how people feel,\u201d Pirro said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m saying I\u2019m glad about the verdict,\u201d Gutfeld replied defensively.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.616714697406\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Greg Gutfeld: &#8220;I&#8217;m glad [Chauvin] was found guilty on all charges, even if he might not be guilty of all charges. It\u2019s not justice and I\u2019ll explain to you why it\u2019s not justice. It\u2019s not justice because justice is George Floyd going home tonight to be with his family. Justice is Adam Toldeo getting tucked in by his mom tonight,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJustice is when you\u2019re pulled over, there not being a gun that\u2019s part of that interaction because you have a headlight out,\u201d the congresswoman stated. \u201cJustice is your school system not having or being part of a school-to-prison pipeline. MSNBC\u2019s Jason Johnson is \u201cnot happy\u201d with the verdict even though he agrees with it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually always thought that he would be found guilty because it\u2019s sort of a cultural wake-up call but I\u2019m not happy. I\u2019m not pleased. I don\u2019t have any sense of satisfaction. I don\u2019t think this is the system working,\u201d Johnson explained. \u201cI don\u2019t think this is a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Johnson, there was a \u201clong process\u201d for Floyd to receive \u201cone scintilla of justice,\u201d including multiple other officer-involved shootings and a \u201cyear\u2019s worth of protests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes me upset all the more that we didn\u2019t have this for Breonna Taylor. It makes me concerned about what\u2019s going to happen in the trial for Ahmaud Arbery,\u201d he said, throwing his hands in the air. \u201cSo no, this isn\u2019t the system working. This is a make-up call. And I\u2019ve said before, justice is a practice, not an end,\u201d Glaude explained. \u201cAnd so we need to understand we\u2019re in a moment of transition to change the very nature of policing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 we have been preparing for the violence of protest. Now we need to prepare for the reaction of the police,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were prepared for the protestors and what they might do if the verdict came down in a way that they were not satisfied.
