Another child lost! Another hashtag!#JusticeForMakhiaBryant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times acknowledged that official reports stated Bryant had been armed, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p><em>Officials said the video showed the teenager lunging at two other females with a knife as the officer arrived at the driveway of a residence. The officer then fired several times \u2014 four shots could be heard in the video \u2014 at the girl. She collapsed to the ground next to a car that had been parked in the driveway, where the body camera footage showed a knife on the ground.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Then the Times quoted various people in the vicinity of the shooting expressing their misgivings about police, including one man who stated, \u201cI\u2019ve got daughters. And I\u2019m tired of it. I feel like a polar bear with the ice caps melting. We have nowhere to run. If we protect ourselves, we go to jail. If we don\u2019t, we die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times quoted another man who was with his daughters when they heard the shots, prompting them to call 911. He said, \u201cHow do I teach my daughters when you call for help, and you expect help to come, you could be on the other side of the gun?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Times then turned to Crump, deliberately leaving out his false description of Bryant being \u201cunarmed\u201d in quoting his tweet:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p><em>The teenager\u2019s death quickly received widespread attention, including from Ben Crump, the Floyd family\u2019s lawyer, amid a continuing reckoning over police accountability and systemic racism.\u201cAs we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting\u201d Mr. Crump said. \u201cAnother child lost! Another hashtag.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Times then segued to a meeting held Tuesday night at which the president of the Columbus City Council discussed implementing a civilian review board for police accountability.<\/p>\n<p>City Council president Shannon Hardin stated, \u201cAs we watched the verdict from Minneapolis many talked about a sigh of relief, but there is a truth that for so many in our community there is no relief. This is not right. It\u2019s not OK, and it can\u2019t continue on.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9872204472843\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">HOLY SHIT \u2013 Look at how the NYT sanitizes Crump\u2019s tweet by removing the \u201cunarmed\u201d lie.  Keep in mind the NYT story comes after the footage is released (and in fact references it).
