They would stand outside of courtrooms and they would threaten violence if any jury would ever acquit a black person or convict a white person,\u201d the attorney explained, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/alan-dershowitz-compares-maxine-waters-to-the-ku-klux-klan\/\">Mediaite<\/a>. \u201cNow we\u2019re seeing exactly the opposite. We\u2019re seeing mobs outside the courthouse and we\u2019re seeing members of Congress, just like the Klan had governors and senators and very prominent public officials, demanding verdicts in particular cases. And now we have a member of Congress demanding a verdict in a case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The professor said the judge in the case should have issued a mistrial over Waters\u2019 remarks. Instead, the judge decided to allow the appellate court to make that decision, something Dershowitz believes was due to the public\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026if he declared a mistrial there\u2019d be riots in the streets and he\u2019d be blamed for it. The true blame would be on Waters but he would be blamed for it,\u201d the professor explained.<\/p>\n<p>Dershowitz pointed out that the case is complex and Waters was attempting to influence the jury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer message was clearly intended to get to the jury: \u2018If you will acquit or if you find the charge less than murder, we will burn down your buildings. We will burn down your businesses,\u201d he explained, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/alan-dershowitz-says-maxine-waters-used-kkk-tactics-intimidate-jury-chauvin-trial-1585111\">Newsweek<\/a> reported. \u201cWe will attack you. We will do what happened to the witness\u2014blood on their door.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very close case on what degree of homicide is involved if the jury gets beyond the issue of causation,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is not a simple case of looking at a video. There\u2019s causation, issues of intent, and other issues in the case that the judge instructed the jury on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) introduced a resolution to censure Waters for her comments. The motion to table the full floor vote <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/emilyelarsen\/status\/1384607386653057031?s=20\">passed<\/a>, with no Democrats defecting.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/derek-chauvin-jury-reaches-verdict-after-short-deliberation\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported, the jury in the Chauvin trial reached a verdict shortly after noon on Tuesday.
