It seems fitting that more NBA players wear my husband\u2019s product than any other signature shoe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope will always be to allow Kobe\u2019s fans to get and wear his products,\u201d Vanessa Bryant said. \u201cI will continue to fight for that. Kobe\u2019s products sell out in seconds. That says everything \u2026 I was hoping to forge a lifelong partnership with Nike that reflects my husband\u2019s legacy. We will always do everything we can to honor Kobe and Gigi\u2019s legacies. That will never change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A source told ESPN that Bryant and the late basketball player\u2019s estate had issues with Nike and had become frustrated with the low availability of Kobe products after he retired from the sport and following his tragic death in a helicopter crash last year.<\/p>\n<p>ESPN reported, \u201cNike, sources said, had presented an extension offer that was not in line with expectations of an ongoing \u2018lifetime\u2019 structure similar to the Nike Inc. contracts held by both Michael Jordan and LeBron James.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKobe Bryant was an important part of Nike\u2019s deep connection to consumers,\u201d Nike told ESPN in a statement. \u201cHe pushed us and made everyone around him better. Though our contractual relationship has ended, he remains a deeply loved member of the Nike family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vanessa Bryant also reportedly told ESPN that the Kobe Bryant estate owns the rights to the \u201cMamba\u201d logo, as well as his signature. The \u201cSheath\u201d logo, which is on many of the tongues of Nike\u2019s Kobe shoes is owned by both sides, a source told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>In a farewell campaign, Nike named Bryant\u2019s final NBA game \u201cMamba Day\u201d after he scored 60 points in the game. After the game, \u201cBryant had a five-year endorsement extension contract in place that continued the partnership into his retirement,\u201d ESPN reported. \u201cBefore he died, Bryant had explored the notion of creating his own Mamba brand upon the expiration of the existing Nike deal, even meeting in December 2019 with a creative agency that could potentially help design and execute a future product series,\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The sports legend passed away in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Seven other people died in the crash, along with his 13 year-old daughter, Gianna \u201cGigi\u201d Bryant. Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-federal-investigators-reveal-likely-reason-for-helicopter-crash-that-killed-kobe-bryant\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported that an investigation determined the helicopter crash was caused by the pilot flying through the clouds in violation of federal safety protocol. \u201cThe helicopter did not contain a so-called \u2018black box\u2019 recording device often used by investigators of helicopter and plane crashes to piece together the final moments before impact,\u201d The Daily Wire reported.
