As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/capitol-riot-defendants-say-they-were-beaten-by-jail-guards-left-in-solidary-confinement\">the Daily Wire previously reported<\/a>, Inmates, arrested as a result of those riots, and awaiting adjudication \u201chave complained about being isolated and, in some cases, locked down for 23 of 24 hours per day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\u201cFor weeks, Capitol riot defendants being held in Washington have complained that they are locked in their cells with virtually no human contact for 23 hours a day,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/04\/06\/capitol-riot-defendant-alleges-beating-by-jail-guards-479413\">Politico reported<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">At the time, a number of leftists on social media expressed a lack of sympathy for the Capitol riot defendants, with one even tweeting that, \u201cYa know, this wouldn\u2019t be an issue if you hadn\u2019t broken the law,\u201d despite Politico\u2019s report indicating that none of the defendants in question had yet been tried.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">These <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">#MAGA<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> morons thought that being white wouldn\u2019t get them thrown in jail. Capitol riot defendants held in DC complain that they are locked in their cells with no human contact for 23 hours a day,\u201d noted another.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">But the majority of inmates in the D.C. jail where the alleged rioters are being held, Washington Post noted, are minorities, and the issue is so concerning, prisoners rights activists and even some prominent Democrats are getting involved.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\u201cSen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) fled the Capitol on Jan. 6 from a mob she later called domestic terrorists. Now she and another Senate Democratic leader are standing up for their attackers\u2019 rights as criminal defendants,\u201d Politico reported. \u201c[s]uch treatment doesn\u2019t sit well with Warren or Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), two of the chamber\u2019s fiercest critics of solitary confinement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\u201cThere has to be a clear justification for that, in very limited circumstances,\u201d Durbin said.
