The trial wrapped up on Monday with closing arguments by the prosecution and defense before the jury was sent to deliberate on a verdict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can only imagine the pressure and anxiety they are feeling, and so I waited until the jury is sequestered and I called,\u201d Biden said, referring to a phone call he shared with Floyd\u2019s family Monday. \u201cI wasn\u2019t going to say anything about it \u2026 it was a private conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re a good family and they are calling for peace and tranquility no matter what that verdict is. I\u2019m praying the verdict is the right verdict, which is, I think it\u2019s overwhelming, in my view. Philonise said that the president said he hoped \u201ceverything will come out to be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was just calling,\u201d Philonise said. \u201cHe knows how it is to lose a family member, and he knows the process of what we\u2019re going through. So he was just letting us know that he was praying for us, hoping that everything will come out to be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s comments come after Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) encouraged protesters to be \u201cconfrontational\u201d should the jury be hung or vote to acquit Chauvin of charges related to Floyd\u2019s death. Waters traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota, over the weekend amid ongoing riots around the city in the wake of the fatal police shooting of a 20-year-old black man, Daunte Wright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking for a guilty verdict. We\u2019re looking for a guilty verdict. And we\u2019re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd,\u201d Waters\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-maxine-waters-on-if-derek-chauvin-is-acquitted-get-more-confrontational-on-the-street\">said<\/a>\u00a0alongside protesters over the Wright shooting. \u201cIf nothing does not happen, then we know, that we\u2019ve got to not only stay in the street, but we\u2019ve got to fight for justice, but I am very hopeful and I hope that we\u2019re going to get a verdict that will say guilty, guilty, guilty. And if we don\u2019t, we cannot go away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked what protesters should do if the verdict is anything other than guilty, Waters said: \u201cWell, we\u2019ve got to stay on the street. And we\u2019ve got to get more active. We\u2019ve got to get more confrontational. We\u2019ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin trial Judge\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-in-chauvin-trial-maxine-waters-remarks-could-lead-to-whole-trial-being-overturned-on-appeal\">Peter Cahill<\/a>\u00a0suggested that Waters\u2019 comments could result in the \u201cwhole trial being overturned\u201d on appeal should Chauvin be found guilty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned,\u201d Cahill told Chauvin\u2019s defense attorney, responding to the attorney\u2019s request for a mistrial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m aware that Congressman Waters was talking specifically about this trial, and about the unacceptability of anything less than a murder conviction, and talk about being confrontational,\u201d Cahill continued. \u201cBut you can submit the press articles about that. This goes back to what I\u2019ve been saying from the beginning.
