The disconnect between vaccinations and infections may come down to the efficacy, or lack thereof, of the Chinese vaccine being used in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Chile has administered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/interactive\/2021\/health\/global-covid-vaccinations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">69 doses per 100 people<\/a> of COVID-19 vaccines, 93% of which are coming from China. Those Chinese doses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/04\/19\/covid-chiles-coronavirus-cases-hit-record-levels-despite-vaccine-rollout.html?__source=sharebar%7Ctwitter&amp;par=sharebar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">are primarily the CoronaVac vaccine<\/a> from privately-owned Chinese firm Sinovac.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Chile, with one of the world\u2019s highest vaccination rates, is battling a vicious Covid surge, forcing it to lock down and delay its elections. Chile offers a cautionary tale about relying on Chinese vaccines, which China\u2019s CDC head admitted \u201cdon\u2019t have very high protection rates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brahma Chellaney (@Chellaney) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chellaney\/status\/1384499061231808513?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Questions have been asked about the effectiveness of Chinese vaccines since the day they were developed. Trials have come to wildly varied conclusions on just how much they work: researchers in Turkey found an 83% efficacy rate, but others in Brazil reported just about 50% effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchile.cl\/noticias\/174186\/resultados-primer-estudio-de-efectividad-de-las-vacunas-en-chile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Chile study<\/a> found the CoronaVac vaccine 56.5% effective two weeks after the second dose is administered, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/25\/natural-immunity-coronavirus-vaccine-experts-weigh-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drastically lower than the three<\/a> vaccines approved for use in the United States, which are nearly 100% effective at preventing serious illness and death from COVID-19. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/16\/vaccinated-americans-contracted-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Less Than 0.01% Of Vaccinated Americans Reportedly Later Contracted COVID-19)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps more importantly, the study found that the vaccine is only 3% effective after the first dose is given. This is a critical difference from Western-developed vaccines like the ones made by Pfizer and Moderna, which <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/29\/pfizer-moderna-vaccines-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-coronavirus-vaccine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">provide substantial protection<\/a> even when the second dose has yet to be given.<\/p>\n<p>That very well may be the chink in Chile\u2019s pandemic armor. 40% of Chileans have received at least one vaccine dose, but less than 30% are fully vaccinated, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/13\/china-covid-19-coronavirus-vaccine-brazil-trials-sinovac-coronavac-bolsonaro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China has pushed back<\/a> against concerns about the efficacy of its vaccines, but final, comprehensive trial data for CoronaVac has not been made publicly available. Earlier in April, China\u2019s CDC director Gao Fu <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/china-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-sinovac-gao-fu-pfizer-moderna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">admitted that his country\u2019s vaccines aren\u2019t working as well<\/a> as they need to be, before later backtracking: \u201cWe will solve the issue that current vaccines don\u2019t have very high protection rates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lack of clarity about whether or not their vaccines actually work hasn\u2019t stopped the Chinese Communist Party from taking a victory lap for their efforts to vaccinate the world.
