It&#8217;s the only way to keep everyone safe and help us get back to all the things we miss most\u2014from seeing family and friends to watching sports in person. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/y2DlprGPds\">pic.twitter.com\/y2DlprGPds<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Barack Obama (@BarackObama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarackObama\/status\/1383926520377270276?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>As has been the case with much of the messaging from Democrats when it comes to vaccine distribution, race was a talking point.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI want to make sure that our communities \u2014 particularly African American, Latino, as well as young people \u2014 understand that this will save lives and allow people to get their lives back to normal. And the sooner we get people vaccinated, the better off we\u2019re going to be.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Barkley responded by noting how it\u2019s \u201cimportant for us to keep talking about the vaccine,\u201d and to not worry about past events \u2014 such as the Tuskegee experiment \u2014 when considering getting vaccinated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSo I\u2019m telling all my friends,\u201d Barkley continued. \u201cYo, man. Forget what happened back in the day. Every Black person, please go out and get vaccinated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s not the first time the TNT crew has dived into political waters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In September, both Barkley and O\u2019Neal pushed back on the outrage and riots that stemmed over the death of Breonna Taylor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s bad the young lady lost her life, but, you know, we do have to take into account that her boyfriend did shoot at the cops and shot a cop,\u201d Barkley said. \u201cSo, like I said, even though I\u2019m really sorry she lost her life, I don\u2019t think that we can just say we can put this in the same situation with George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, I just don\u2019t believe that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O\u2019Neal, who became a part-time police officer in Florida after his retirement from the NBA, agreed with Barkley and spoke from the law enforcement side of the conversation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI have to agree with Charles, this one is sort of lumped in,\u201d O\u2019Neal said. \u201cYou have to get a warrant signed and some states do allow no-knock warrants. And everyone was asking for murder charges. When you talk about murder, you have to show intent. A homicide occurred and we\u2019re sorry a homicide occurred. When you have a warrant signed by the judge, you are doing your job, and I would imagine that you would fire back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Most recently, Barkley made headlines during March Madness when he questioned the motives of politicians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMan, I think most white people and Black people are great people,\u201d Barkley said. \u201cI really believe that in my heart, but I think our system is set up where our politicians, whether they\u2019re Republicans or Democrats, are designed to make us not like each other so they can keep their grasp of money and power. They divide and conquer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI truly believe in my heart most white people and Black people are awesome people,\u201d Barkley continued, \u201cbut we\u2019re so stupid following our politicians, whether they\u2019re Republicans or Democrats, and their only job is, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s make these people not like each other. We don\u2019t live in their neighborhoods, we all got money, let\u2019s make the whites and Blacks not like each other, let\u2019s make rich people and poor people not like each other, let\u2019s scramble the middle class.\u2019 I truly believe that in my heart.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As was the case with mask wearing, Democrats have pushed the vaccines as an essential measure in order for Americans to get back to their normal lives.
