Chauvin knew that a business requested officers\u2019 assistance, and the alleged male offender was still on the scene. The man was described as large, standing at six-feet or taller and possibly under the influence of alcohol or something else. Chauvin was then told that an officer on scene requested assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson argued that when Chauvin arrived at the Cup Foods corner store that had called police, what any \u201creasonable police officer would see could be defined \u2026 as active aggression, or active resistance\u201d from Floyd. The attorney showed video of two officers struggling to put Floyd into a police car.<\/p>\n<p>Floyd complained that he was \u201cclaustrophobic\u201d and repeatedly said he was a \u201cgood guy\u201d before Chauvin had \u201claid a finger on Mr. Floyd,\u201d Nelson stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin, at the time, would have also observed \u201cthe white foam around Floyd\u2019s mouth,\u201d added Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>Three officers were unable to get Floyd into the police car before Chauvin put the suspect into a prone restraint, the defense argued. During the struggle, Floyd\u2019s kicking nearly knocked one officer over and did knock the body camera off of Chauvin, Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson noted that officers are heard on camera reassessing the risk before Chauvin decided to restrain Floyd. He also said that Chauvin was told that paramedics would be on the scene in three minutes or sooner.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution wants the jury to focus in on the \u201cnine minutes and 29 seconds,\u201d where Chauvin has Floyd restrained, Nelson argued, adding that jurors should not ignore the first 16 minutes and 59 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin and three other officers arrested and detained Floyd on\u00a0May 25 after Floyd allegedly gave counterfeit money at a convenience store. Viral video shows that\u00a0Chauvin kneeled on Floyd\u2019s neck and back area for nearly nine minutes while detaining Floyd.<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin\u2019s attorneys are arguing that Floyd\u2019s drug use was a crucial factor in his death. As highlighted by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/george-floyds-girlfriend-floyd-hospitalized-for-overdose-months-earlier-drug-dealer-with-him-during-arrest\">The Daily Wire<\/a>, the Hennepin County <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/medical-examiner-concluded-george-floyd-likely-died-of-fentanyl-overdose-court-docs-reveal\">medical examiner<\/a> said that Floyd\u2019s autopsy showed the deceased had potentially lethal levels of drugs in his system.<\/p>\n<p>Chauvin is currently on trial for\u00a0second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in relation to Floyd\u2019s death. The former officer\u00a0can be found guilty of all, some, or none of the charges since they are all separate.<\/p>\n<p>Since Chauvin has no criminal history, the defendant is likely looking at serving about 12 1\/2 years if he is convicted of second- or third-degree murder,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/derek-chauvin-trial-murder-charge-explained-5e7c935f560219caee61fcc0bef0a23d\">according<\/a> to The Associated Press.
