I could offer solutions, but I think you know what they are. I could offer you anger, but if you\u2019re a sentient human being alive right now and you are not already full of that, I honestly don\u2019t know what to say to you.:<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1x4bywk\">\u201cBecause the fact is, Black people continue to be mowed down by the police that they pay for,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Oliver called upon white America to actually bring about a fundamental change in policing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1x4bywk\">\u201cIt\u2019s once again been made painfully clear that we \u2013 and when I say we, I mean white America \u2013 have to stop talking about fundamental change in policing and actually make it happen because this cycle of state violence against Black lives has to be stopped,\u201d he said. \u201cSo put on your shoes, leave the house, march in the streets, and demand a better country \u2013 one in which Black people are treated with fundamental respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bankruptcy: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GzFG0Cdh8D8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1x4bywk\">Oliver\u2019s declaration followed fellow comedian Trevor Noah\u2019s last week, who described America\u2019s policing as a \u201crotten tree,\u201d dismissing the idea that videos of cops killing black people represent just some bad apples.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo my question is: where are the good apples?\u201d he asked. \u201cAnd honestly, I believe, we don\u2019t see them not because there are no good people on the police force, I think there are many people who are good on the police force. That\u2019s why they join. Because they want to do good. But I think it\u2019s because they themselves know that if they do something, they\u2019re going against the system. The system is more powerful than any individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe system in policing is doing exactly what it\u2019s meant to do in America, and that is to keep poor people in their place. Who happens to be the most poor in America? Black people,\u201d Noah said. \u201cYou monetize them, you imprison them, which monetizes them again \u2014 it\u2019s a system. It\u2019s not broken. It\u2019s working the way it\u2019s designed to work. And once you realize that, I feel like you get to a place where you go, \u2018Oh, we\u2019re not dealing with bad apples.
