Maxine Waters (D-CA) responded to backlash over controversial remarks that she made over the weekend by claiming that Republicans were trying to \u201cseize\u201d on what she said so that they could raise money from the \u201cKKK\u201d and \u201cwhite supremacists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democrat-maxine-waters-on-if-derek-chauvin-is-acquitted-get-more-confrontational-on-the-street\">said<\/a> at a protest in Minnesota over the weekend that they were \u201clooking for a guilty verdict\u201d and if they don\u2019t get what they want then \u201cwe cannot go away.\u201d When asked what \u201cprotesters\u201d should do if they do not get the verdict that they want, Waters responded that activists have \u201cgot to stay on the street,\u201d \u201cget more active,\u201d and \u201cget more confrontational.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters\u2019 alleged incitement sparked massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kevin-mccarthy-i-will-bring-action-against-maxine-waters-for-inciting-violence-if-pelosi-doesnt\">backlash<\/a>, including calls for her to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trying-to-create-a-civil-war-calls-grow-for-maxine-waters-to-be-punished-over-alleged-incitement\">removed<\/a> from her committee assignments and even removed from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Waters responded to the backlash over her comments by telling The Grio that\u00a0\u201cRepublicans will jump on any word, any line and try to make it fit their message and their cause for denouncing us and denying us, basically calling us violent \u2026 any time they see an opportunity to seize on a word, so they do it and they send a message to all of the white supremacists, the KKK, the Oath Keepers, the [Proud] Boys and all of that, how this is a time for [Republicans] to raise money on [Democrats] backs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters claimed that her comments about being \u201cconfrontational\u201d were about \u201cconfronting the justice system\u201d and \u201cconfronting the policing that\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not worried that they\u2019re going to continue to distort what I say. This is who they are and this is how they act,\u201d Waters said without providing any evidence that her opponents had distorted the comments that she made. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not going to be bullied by them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Grio added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p><em>If Chauvin is found guilty, however, Waters said it would signal activists and politicians calling for police reform are \u201cmaking some progress and that everything that we have done, including the protests, has led us to a point where we\u2019re being taken seriously and we\u2019re being treated fairly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Monday that Waters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-on-whether-maxine-waters-should-apologize-for-alleged-incitement-i-dont-think-she-should\">should not<\/a> apologize for her remarks, and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jen-psaki-dodges-whether-biden-agrees-with-maxine-waters-controversial-remarks\">dodged<\/a> directly answering a question on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
