Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/fb_image-2729.jpeg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"  style=\"display:none\"><\/div>\n<p><span>The highest court in France has reportedly ruled that Kobili Traor\u00e9 \u2014 who admitted to beating and murdering a 65-year-old Jewish woman \u2014 cannot stand trial because he was high on marijuana at the time of the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe highest court in France has ruled that the man who killed a Jewish woman in 2017 in an anti-Semitic frenzy cannot stand trial because he was in a state of acute mental delirium brought on by his consumption of cannabis,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/17\/world\/europe\/sarah-halimi-murder-trial.html\">The New York Times<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Traor\u00e9 \u2014 an African immigrant from Mali who is currently in a psychiatric institution \u2014 \u201cbeat Sarah Halimi, 65, before throwing her out the window of her Paris apartment to cries of \u2018Allahu akbar,\u2019 \u2026 and \u2018I killed the devil.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the Times, \u201cMr. Traor\u00e9, who was 27 at the time, had been troubled by Ms. Halimi\u2019s mezuza, which \u2018amplified the frantic outburst of hate,\u2019 according to one psychiatric report.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In response to the court\u2019s decision, four years after Halimi\u2019s murder, French President Emanuel Macron \u201cexpressed support on Sunday for the country\u2019s Jewish community and its efforts to bring the killer of Sarah Halimi to trial,\u201d according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/french-president-on-halimi-ruling-going-crazy-on-drugs-does-not-excuse-crime\/\"><span>The Times Of Israel<\/span><\/a><span>, adding that he would seek a legislative change to prevent such a case from happening in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s not for me to comment on a court decision, but I would like to express to the family, to the relatives of the victim, and to all our Jewish citizens who were waiting for a trial, my warm support and the Republic\u2019s determination to protect them,\u201d Macron told Le Figaro.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Macron said that France \u201cdoes not judge citizens who are sick, we treat them\u2026 But deciding to take drugs and then \u2018going crazy\u2019 should not, in my opinion, take away your criminal responsibility.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He added: \u201cI would like Justice Minister [Eric Dupond-Moretti] to present a change in the law as soon as possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The lawyer for Halimi\u2019s brother, Muriel Ouaknine Melki, said that the ruling was \u201ca bad message for French Jewish citizens.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/frances-macron-calls-for-change-in-law-following-sarah-halimi-ruling-665630\"><span>The Jerusalem Post<\/span><\/a><span>, Yonthan Arfi, vice president of CRIF (Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions), condemned the ruling and decried this case as indicative of a loophole in the battle against hate crimes. In addition to other related work, the organization is looking to change the law so that individuals remain criminally responsible for their actions, even if they have taken drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe are starting to build a consensus on this idea,\u201d he said. \u201cMany people in France consider it natural that if you drink wine and get in a car crash you are responsible for losing control of your car.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThis crime was symbolic of the new antisemitism,\u201d he added. \u201cThe perpetrator was a Muslim. He was praying to Allah while murdering her.
