Anyone traveling to Golden Gate Park or Hippie Hill looking for a party will be disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 420 Hippie Hill festival organizers were forced to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2020-04-14\/mayor-do-not-come-to-san-francisco-4-20-marijuana-holiday\">cancel<\/a> the event last year in response to the city\u2019s stay-at-home orders. Mayor Breed said officials would not allow the \u201cunsanctioned event\u201d to occur, \u201cespecially in the height of a pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A year later, city officials still say it\u2019s too soon to permit large gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very concerned about the surges we are seeing in other parts of the country and in Europe that are being fueled by variants,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2021\/04\/13\/covid-420-celebration-canceled-2nd-year-hippie-hill-golden-gate-park\/\">said<\/a> Dr. Grant Colfax, SF Director of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the Recreation and Parks Department said fencing and barricades would go up around the area on Monday and remain through Wednesday the 21<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Tamara Barak Aparton, with San Francisco Recreation and Parks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kron4.com\/news\/bay-area\/golden-gate-park-to-be-closed-off-after-sf-cancels-annual-4-20-event\/\">told<\/a> KRON 4 that the Hippie Hill area would be off-limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a really long year for all of us and I know we\u2019re all itching to go out and do things with people, but we\u2019re just not ready for big celebrations like 4\/20,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve come so far and we don\u2019t want to take any steps back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The L.A. Times reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"20.887356321839\">\n<p><em>San Francisco is\u00a0<\/em><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-03-23\/san-francisco-reopening-orange-tier-covid-pandemic\">in the orange tier<\/a>\u00a0of the state\u2019s color-coded restrictions, meaning some businesses may operate with modifications. But instead of weeding out the crowd with capacity limits, the city canceled the event altogether. Police officers and park rangers will ensure people stay off the grass Tuesday, and citations may be issued, according to a city announcement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLet me be blunt,\u201d San Francisco Recreation and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg said in a statement. \u201cHippie Hill will be completely inaccessible. Law enforcement will be patrolling the area. It will be a serious buzzkill.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Event organizers are offering a dis-jointed set of online events in lieu of the usual gathering, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.420hippiehill.com\/\">a livestreamed comedy show<\/a>.
