Tim Walz declared a state of emergency in counties near Minneapolis and is bringing in police backup from other states ahead of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, numerous sources reported late Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The declaration includes a request to bring in state troopers from Ohio and Nebraska, who will be \u201cassigned to security missions at key state facilities\u201d Walz said, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bringmethenews.com\/minnesota-news\/walz-declares-emergency-in-twin-cities-bringing-in-police-from-ohio-and-nebraska\"><span>Bring Me The News<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7174063\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"37\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7174063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ST. (Photo by Stephen Maturen\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Following the death of George Floyd in May 2020, protests and riots erupted in Minnesota, which resulted in more than 250 buildings being looted or damaged in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and surrounding suburbs. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/06\/01\/over-250-businesses-looting-destroyed-fire-minneapolis-st-paul-riot-george-floyd-protest\/\"><b>(RELATED: Over 250 Buildings Damaged Because Of Riots In Minnesota\u2019s Twin Cities: Report)<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The case against Chauvin went to the jury Monday, and after deliberations and a full day of closing arguments, the final phase of the trial is due to resume Tuesday, Fox News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/minnesotas-walz-declares-state-of-emergency-prior-to-derek-chauvin-verdict\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe can\u2019t live like this,\u201d Walz said, according to Fox 9. \u201cWe simply can\u2019t. But we can\u2019t have thousands of businesses burned and people put at risk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Walz also made a request to the Minnesota Legislature to free up emergency funding for extra security, a $9 million boost that the Minnesota Senate passed Monday afternoon, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox9.com\/news\/minnesota-senate-to-pass-9m-in-emergency-funding-in-response-to-unrest-in-twin-cities\"><span>Fox 9<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Included in the measure is $6.3 million in overtime pay and other costs for Minnesota State Patrol, which have been deployed to the Brooklyn Center for security purposes after the police shooting of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/daunte-wright-bodycam-fatal-shooting-minnesota\/\"><span>Daunte Wright<\/span><\/a><span> in April, Fox 9 reported. If curfews are set, they will likely be on a day-by-day basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Minneapolis officials have been preparing security for the Chauvin trial for months. The city spent roughly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/04\/minneapolis-fencing-barriers-derek-chauvin-trial-george-floyd-looting\/\"><span>$645,000 on fences and barriers<\/span><\/a><span> to protect city buildings and police precincts from potential vandalism and destruction that could have occurred during the trial.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Walz also signed an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/05\/minnesota-governor-tim-walz-executive-order-national-gaurd-derek-chauvin-trial\/\"><span>executive order<\/span><\/a><span> in February to activate the state\u2019s National Guard ahead of the trial. The executive order would also extend into August, when the three other police officers facing charges in Floyd\u2019s death will stand trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Roughly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/07\/30\/24-people-killed-george-floyd-riots-protests\/\"><span>two dozen people<\/span><\/a><span> across the country were killed as a result of the looting and riots between May and July 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democratic Minnesota Gov.
