Ted Cruz nor Sen. John Cornyn has spoken out about the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/13\/alejandro-majorkas-joe-biden-heritage-foundation-mark-morgan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biden administration<\/a> continuing to seize private land for border wall construction on the southern border of Texas, the Cavazos family told the DCNF. A&nbsp; U.S. District Court ruled Tuesday that the federal government could use eminent domain to seize six acres of land in Hidalgo county from the Cavazos family, the Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2021\/04\/15\/biden-border-wall-texas-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis is one of the reasons we are fighting this so hard because we are tired of losing land, we are tired of people, you know, trampling on our rights. We are just tired of it,\u201d Reynaldo \u201cRey\u201d Anzaldua Cavazos told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAnd what does Ted Cuz and John Cornyn do? They say \u2018well you see you can\u2019t be taking property from Texans through eminent domain, that\u2019s not American,\u2019 well what about us here, are we not U.S. citizens?\u201d Anzaldua Cavazos said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.870860927152\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This issue today, spanning from 2006 under Bush, extending through Trump and now Biden, shows how nothing is ever cut or dry when it comes to border politics, especially a fence, in Texas\u2019 Rio Grande Valley. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bZEInJBZxZ\">https:\/\/t.co\/bZEInJBZxZ<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ve2khQhpyd\">pic.twitter.com\/ve2khQhpyd<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 lomikriel (@lomikriel) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lomikriel\/status\/1382456427734650881?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 14, 2021<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The government has seized hundreds of acres of land from the family in the last 60 years with little compensation, Anzaldua Cavazos told the DCNF. The government offered $347,887 for the 6.5 acres of land on September 4, 2020, according to the court order.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz argued for $5.7 billion in funding for the border wall in January 2019 and Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet criticized him for allowing the federal government to take constituents\u2019 land, Texas Monthly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasmonthly.com\/news-politics\/texas-politicians-ted-cruz-standing-up-texas-landowners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Several Texas lawmakers rallied behind landowners when the Bureau of Land Management attempted to claim small strips of land at the bottom of the Red River serving as the border between Texas and Oklahoma in 2019, Texas Monthly reported. Gov. Greg Abbott told the agency to \u201ccome and take it\u201d and the claim was dropped when former President Donald Trump took office.<\/p>\n<p>However, lawmakers did not raise the same concerns when Trump\u2019s proposed border wall would require the government to seize large amounts of private land to build a buffer zone, fences, access roads and other technology like lights and surveillance, Texas Monthly reported.<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn said eminent domain is sometimes necessary to put up fencing on private property in south Texas, Fox News Radio <a href=\"https:\/\/radio.foxnews.com\/2019\/01\/25\/senator-john-cornyn-r-tx-responds-to-cnn-calling-him-out-for-supporting-eminent-domain-at-texas-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/15\/cbp-agents-covid-exposure-overtime-understaffed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Border Agents Report Being Overworked, Understaffed And Exposed To COVID-19 During Migrant Surge)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cornyn added that property owners in south Texas \u201cwant the protection that comes with [the border wall] because they\u2019re being overrun by the drug dealers and the human traffickers as well as the coyotes who are moving people from Central America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they\u2019ll say \u2018well it is different because there is a problem with national security.\u2019 That\u2019s baloney, there is no problem here with national security,\u201d Anzaldua Cavazos told the DCNF. \u201cAs far as the border wall, there is no need for border walls. What the government needs to do is address the real, root cause of the problem, which is drug addiction and the need for immigrant labor. Until they address those problems, this is never gonna stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cavazos family tried to delay the seizure of the land for the last few years and believed President Joe Biden when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/08\/05\/899266045\/biden-would-end-border-wall-construction-but-wont-tear-down-trump-s-additions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> in August that there \u201cwill not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration,\u201d Anzaldua Cavazos told the DCNF. The Cavazos family isn\u2019t sure whether the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/04\/12\/biden-admin-illegal-immigrant-court-dates-legal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biden administration<\/a> plans to build a physical or \u201cvirtual\u201d wall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither way, it doesn\u2019t make any difference. It\u2019ll be an intrusion and it will be a problem for the landowner and the environment because they\u2019ll have floodlights and all those sorts of things out there and the Rincon Village is the only property where there\u2019s a wooded area that will support wildlife,\u201d Anzaldua Cavazos told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the border wall stopped for one week after Biden was inaugurated and has not stopped since, Aurora Anzaldua Garcia, Rey\u2019s sister, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI live right next to the border wall, there is a levy behind my house and I see the construction and the machinery going back and forth, the work trucks going back and forth, and they stopped for exactly one week,\u201d Aurora told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Migrants cross through Aurora\u2019s property nearly every night, she told the DCNF.
