That Stereotype Hurts,\u201d is a free \u201c30-minute training,\u201d and \u201cnot required,\u201d but recommended. It is \u201cavailable on Blackboard for students, faculty and staff,\u201d according to a February <a href=\"https:\/\/news.uark.edu\/articles\/56047\/-ouch-training-now-available-to-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">news release<\/a> from the university. The training teaches participants how to \u201cgain communication skills,\u201d in order to better promote \u201cinclusion and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe objectives of the training are to understand the impact of stereotypes and biased statements even when spoken casually, identify the most common reasons people stay silent in the face of bias and stereotypes, and enhance skills for speaking up against stereotypes without blame or guilt,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/diversity.uark.edu\/leadership-initiatives\/ouch.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">description<\/a> of the training reads.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"7.6582278481013\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">University of Arkansas spends over $40k teaching offended students to say<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Ouch!\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Byzic6XXUf\">https:\/\/t.co\/Byzic6XXUf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Campus Reform (@campusreform) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/campusreform\/status\/1382906690727731200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe course has five parts: a review of basic concepts and terms, a video on the impact of hurtful stereotypes, ways to respectfully speak up when you hear demeaning comments, a practice session and a final assessment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/502116492\/University-of-Arkansas-OUCH-Diversity-Training-Contract#from_embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contract<\/a> for the training which was obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/campusreform.org\/article?id=17211\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Campus Reform<\/a> states that the university reportedly paid at least $40,680 for the training. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/02\/23\/linkedin-robin-diangelo-confronting-racism-course-removed-be-less-white-diversity-coca-cola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Robin DiAngelo Diversity Course Instructing People To \u2018Be Less White\u2019 Removed From LinkedIn)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University of Arkansas is committed to creating a campus environment where everyone feels welcome and can find a sense of belonging, and this training is one of many steps we\u2019re taking toward that vision,\u201d explained Yvette Murphy-Erby, the Vice-Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStereotypes, even when unintended, can be harmful to those efforts.
